@thomasochism@AndThatsBB i am not going to argue that a cap/floor system wouldn't help the pirates, it would be a marginal help but yes the larger issue is their owner needs to go he clearly can't or won't fund that team to an acceptable level.
@FolliesBlue@phoenix2042@YankeesFiles Yes but a floor/cap system doesn’t maximize competitive balance just payroll equity. I think the competitive balance piece is just wildly overblown. Baseball is not run by 1 team. Dodgers didn’t even get a bye in ‘25. It is a bad faith argument to suppress payroll.
@YankeesFiles The issue with this line of thinking is that the owners that don’t compete (MIN, PIT, MIA, etc.) are making a bad faith argument in favor of a cap. It is a profit maximizing goal not comp. balance. If there was a floor all those low payroll teams would just hang out at the floor.
@YankeesFiles You have to remember when people say they want “parity” they just mean they want their team to make it to the playoffs more. I completely get it, if you root for a team that has not make the WS in your lifetime and some big market teams repeat it can be defeating.
@GreenfieldMax18 tbh, i have not spent much time looking into NC politics since moving here other than the mayor of my town is consistently having the local police cover his drunken exploits. the robinson stuff in '24 was wild.
@RyanGarciaESM people thinks this tells us "analytics" can't capture scrappy teams when it really just reveals the playoffs have expanded to the point teams that aren't good get wild card seeds.
@YankeesFiles That seems, extremely bullish. I am looking at Clay Davenport’s 3rd order standings which has liked us more so far this season, too. Shocked PECOTA likes the Rays that much unless they have some very easy schedule going forward that will help them.
@YankeesFiles I was told these numbers don’t matter because we have too many .700 OPS bats and guys below the Mendoza line plus we are already going to get bounced in the ALDS. Gotta love fans who can’t stand this team.
@LombardIsKing_ Also if you have any lead that is greater than innings left (ex. up 4 after 6 innings) you could use this guy and never lose.
Any good team would use this guy to great effect.
@LombardIsKing_ This pitcher would be extremely valuable as a closer. People are focusing on the 9 ERA, which in a normal context is awful. However, if you have any lead greater than 1 run you have a guaranteed win after 8 innings. For context the Yankees had 72 such games last year.
@jassond0minguez@YankeesFiles Genuine question. Before the 4-10 stretch they were 16-2. Does that stretch not count anymore? Was it all fake? Or do only the poor stretches mean something? It’s been frustrating but you can’t have it both ways.
