Don't judge a book by its cover, the saying goes. But what else are you to judge it by? Perhaps use other people's opinion of the book? The response from the diversity acolytes would be further outrage: "You can't trust opinions, some of those come from Trump supporters who, you know, hate books with dark covers... All books are equal!"
The reality: our mental machinery was designed to look for signals and then fill in the blanks. Picture yourself walking down the street and you see a clown ๐คก with a machete ๐ช โ perhaps the book should be judged by its cover. Taking time to understand his intentions may not yield the most fruitful of outcomes.
Use signals and judge. It is the way nature intended; beauty is evolution signaling that a potential mate doesn't have parasites. But remember signals can also be weaponized. Most notably, the infernal music of the ice cream truck: a weaponized signal deployed against parents. My counter measure: I told my children that the ice cream truck's music was a signal that he was out of ice cream. ๐คญ
I drink to books judged by their covers; they probably suck. In my glass tonight: a hazy pint with a pleasant tartness for a sour, but I was lost in the medley of artificial fruit flavors โ raspberry, cherry, lime. It tasted like those red-white-and-blue firecracker popsicles the ice cream man would lure children to his van with. The signal says run!

"Wingman" West Coast Pale Ale ๐ป

Bruce Wayne โ a man powered by rage since childhood โ ditched his life of luxury to brood in near solitude in the lonely caverns beneath Wayne Manor. But even the Dark Knight wasnโt truly alone.
Robin, the Boy Wonder โ part student, part comrade โ watched his mentorโs back. Alfred, his loyal butler, nursed his wounds and protected him from being consumed by the darkness of his alter ego. And the brilliant Lucius Fox, provider of an endless supply of critical gadgetry that kept Batman alive.
Who is any hero without their wingman? Sherlock without Watson, Han without Chewbacca, Kirk without Spock, SpongeBob without Patrick, and of courseโฆ Maverick without Goose!
Sure, Goose dies in a fiery crashโฆ but in his final moment, he reached forward and saved the life of his lead pilot.
So hereโs to wingmen โ may we share the glory and never fly solo again. And in my cup tonight: a crisp golden-amber West Coast Pale Ale with a thick rocky head, bright citrus, and piney hop bitterness that cuts clean and dry. The perfect reliable co-pilot, worthy of a cheers with your wingman.

"SunSetter" Peach Wheat Ale ๐ป

We stand on the shores of Spring, watching the golden wave of Summer rising in the near distance. Throw your arms wide and let the change consume you.
There is no escaping change โ this or any other.
As children, change is pure celebration: every new step, every milestone, every birthday candle left smoldering. But as we grow older, our perception inverts. Change becomes an unwelcome guest โ something to resist, even to mourn.
Whatever our feelings, the truth remains: change is the norm. Moments of perfect tranquility and permanence are the aberration, no matter how tightly we try to cling to them. So have your joy. Have your fun. Have your seasons in the sun โ and do so with abandon. The sunset will come, and when it does, stand ready to greet it.
I drink to change! In my cup tonight is SunSetter Peach Wheat Ale โ pouring a beautiful hazy peach-gold with a thick, cloud-like white head that slowly settles. The aroma bursts with ripe, juicy peach, balanced by soft wheat grain and a clean, but slightly watery finish.

A firehose ejects 180 gallons of water per minute, pummeling all before it with 150 psi of unapologetic pressure. Often found on the receiving end is a righteous blue-haired protestor โ sprawling and battered in the gutter, their soggy bewilderment leaving them unsure of what cause they were even championing.
But arenโt we all the soggy protestor in some ways? Blasted with information daily, we struggle to keep up. The sheer volume of new facts, studies, and observations leaves us overwhelmed. Based on this, youโve desperately ditched seed oils, the new kitchen pariah, and embraced ๐ฅ avocado oil as the latest savior. Yet beware โ in a few years youโll likely be told that this savior is now the leading cause of adult-onset mental retardation and spontaneous prolapsed anus syndrome.
The truth is, the human body, our minds, the environment, the economy, the cosmos โ everything we rely on โ is a complex system. Nebulous systems full of feedback loops and self-organizing elements. We canโt fully understand them, so we should always expect that even well-intentioned recommendations will yield unintended consequences.
I drink to the soggy blue-haired people! Although I mock you frequently, are we really so different? In my cup is a nebula of flavorsโฆ all good, with few unintended ones. Hazy, aromatic, bold yet smooth and tropical. I should be so lucky as to have this brew sprayed at me through a firehose.

@StefanMolyneux I clearly remember a Newsweek or Time type publication as a child that read, "The Coming Ice Age".
Every doomsday publication has been wrong.
