I've worked my ass off to buy the car that I currently own which I bought 5 years ago (May 2021). Everytime I was between jobs with no income, ensuring the car EMI got deducted on time was the top most priority on my mind. The emotional connect that me or anyone has with their car is something you can't quantify. A small dent or scratch on it, I used to feel bad for an entire day. And today, I'm being FORCED to DESTROY my own car with my own hands due to this mindless #Ethanol blending policy of this man called #NitinGadkari. With 'Zero Ethanol' petrol hardly available in any fuel station and costing almost 170 Rs per litre wherever rarely available, I'm forced to fill my car up with this E20 Petrol and my car is literally choking and dying a slow death. I could see a major drop in mileage and AC performance ever since this Ethanol nonsense was introduced. I kept quiet for so many months hoping this nonsense would be rolled back after the whole backlash but now with E30, E85 and even E100 being introduced, I'm speechless. Even if you buy a brand new E20 compatible car today, it's already incompatible with the E30 and above fuel blends that are being forced down our throats.

I'm not an active supporter of any political party but have always been a staunch opposer and critic of the Congress. But dear @narendramodi ji, if Mr. @nitin_gadkari is not shown the door and this Ethanol nonsense is not rolled back, I already know who I'm voting for next and it's NOT the BJP.

I had an offer from an incredibly well-funded startup in early 2020 ($150M+ raised). I was supposed to join their ML team in April. I had already resigned and was serving my notice when COVID hit.

HR called and said they were deferring my offer. Assured me the offer was safe and that they just wanted me to join once offices reopened.

For the next couple of months we stayed in touch. Every conversation repeated the same thing: the offer is safe. The market was dead, so I spent the time doing research with an ex-advisor.

We finally set my joining date: June 1st.

In the last two weeks of May I had multiple calls with my future manager. We discussed MacBook configs, projects I’d work on, brainstormed approaches. I even shared my shipping address for the laptop.

Two days before joining they rescinded the offer.

That day I learned something important:

Your employer will not hesitate to rescind an offer or lay you off if it benefits them.

You shouldn’t feel guilty about optimizing for yourself either.

Everyone is optimizing for their own interests. It’s a ruthless market.

An employer has 100 / 1000 / 10000 employees.

You only have one job.

Just got a message from Mr. Salim a topper from his NIT, working in Bangalore with a ₹43.5 LPA package laid off last month. The company handed him just 3 months’ severance.

Last year alone, he paid ₹11.22 lakhs in income tax. In just 5 years, over ₹30 lakhs gone into the system, and in return, he got zero support. No safety net. No job security. No respect for his contribution.
