@DavidSHolz Yes, meeting people and your work experiences and interests rapidly make you unusual - if you meet the right people, which usually means unusual people.
@WesterWolfgang But if you had hacked 80k Bitcoin would you really leave them in eight addresses for 14 years? Why not confuse the trail by putting them through, say, MtGox. And perhaps LightRider is making up the story to find out who owned the 80K.
@WesterWolfgang Just to be clear, someone transferred small amounts in using op_return to send messages pretending to have the accounts under their control (as Salomon Bros?) and the real owner then panicked and sent the Bitcoin to new addresses?
@Crypto_Mags And 20 shillings to a pound. But just pricing things in pounds would have been too easy, so they were often priced in guineas = 21 shillings.
@WesterWolfgang@pete_rizzo_ Absolutely! I found the source before in some fringe blog. I am not sure if the AHA (Austin Hackers Association) existed, but they certainly didn't mine 400,000 Bitcoins (apart from Druid) and even if they had it would be ridiculous to list their total three times.
@Arthur_van_Pelt I think Satoshi never talked about self-custody because he took it for granted. The idea of a Bitcoin exchange only came from Malmi and others towards the end of 2009. Even then, I doubt Satoshi ever thought people would want to hold their Bitcoin on an exchange.
@FractalEncrypt I think the second reference was the starting point as it references 3,4,5 and would have originally stood at the head of Satoshi's references before he heard about Dai. It is a paper presented at an obscure conference in Belgium, the Symposium on Inf. Theory in the Benelux.
@Arthur_van_Pelt@BtcLiberty If all property transactions took place in Bitcoin, then it would undoubtedly increase the demand for Bitcoin somewhat. But only to provide liquidity for transactions, not to cover the value of all property.
@Arthur_van_Pelt@BtcLiberty I think I do. Suppose you had a house valued at 1 million dollars. You do not have a million dollars, you have a house. Now call it 10 Bitcoin instead. You do not have 10 Bitcoin you have a house. The price of Bitcoin would not change because you value it in Bitcoin.
