Professor of Mathematics, Purdue University. Interested in real algebraic and o-minimal geometry, model theory and combinatorics, and complexity theory.
I originally wanted to make this into a multipart tweet but it became too long. So I made a blog post instead. I tried to keep it completely elementary, but any missing background material can be found in one of the two (not so thick) books in the pic. https://t.co/rO5L5Omdrv
New paper on the arXiv today. On a cohomological generalization of the Vapnik-Chervonenkis density, with bounds and applications. #model-theory #sheaves#algebraic-geometry #cohomology

Fighting this for a day. How to produce an unnumbered theorem using the SIAM style file ? The standard commands \begin{theorem*} or defining a new environment using \newtheorem* doesn't seem to work (even after adding \usepackage{amsthm}[ntheorem]). Any help much appreciated ?
New paper with Ali Mohammad-Nezhad on the ลojasiewicz inequality posted on the arXiv. Comments most welcome. Photo from a recent conference in Krakรณw -- the math department is on a street named after him.

Will begin the long trip to Krakow in a few hours. Feeling excited and nervous at the same time. Looking forward to the conference though. First in-person real algebraic geometry meeting for me post-Covid. https://t.co/IXp2WuhAmU
I have had many good interactions with the French Consulate in Chicago. But now the wall seems to be getting higher and higher ... effectively impossible for me it seems to get a visa for France for mathematical visits.

I am supposed to give a short course at CIRM at the Real Algebraic Geometry meeting (Oct 24-28) (https://t.co/paj8lQH6t3). I need a visa (Indian passport) and tried making an appointment following the directions from the website of the French Consulate at Chicago.
I remember the days when getting a French visa meant showing up at the consulate in Atlanta and be done with it in an hour or so (this maybe twenty years ago). Now the bureaucracy is outsourced and it looks pretty much impossible.
New paper with Negin Karisani on "Computing the homology functor on semi-algebraic maps and diagrams" on the arXiv today. Comments most welcome. #semialgebraic#homology#zigzag
