My daughter started full time daycare yesterday. I’m missing those few extra hours with her, but looking forward to seeing this really cute face later today.
Super cool that my 5 month old has mastered rolling over onto her belly… not so cool at 3:30am when she can’t roll back over and gets mad 😆 I might be a little extra tired today
Had a few hiccups in the lab last week due to some inconsistencies with growth medium and such. Time to start fresh today and hopefully get somewhere with my planned experiments 🤞
@SciVirusGuy It seems like my now 5 month old has been sick with some new “cold” every few weeks since she started daycare at 2 months and I’ve gotten sick too as a result 😅 she bounces back a lot faster than me, though!
The plus side is that as a grad student researcher, my hours are flexible and I can go into the lab when my partner gets home from work and we can hand off baby duty. Not having another childcare option or family around is an inconvenience, but we make it work!
No one prepares you for what to do as a PhD student when your daughter’s daycare provider has a COVID case and you have no backup childcare so you have to make the decision to take her anyway or take a “work from home” day 😅 (daughter had COVID ~3 weeks ago)
It’s been a year since I left academia. I now work in sales for a biotech. Here’s some thoughts and experiences I’d like to share with you:
1) Leaving academia isn’t easy. It’s a prestigious field and you’re literally making breakthroughs (small or large). (1/9)
Still feels kinda surreal that my first, first author paper is preprinted 🥳 Huge thanks to @surt_lab for helping me get to this point and for the hard work of @mclark753BC and the Ravishankar lab that helped make this a cool story!
