We complained in Nov that decisions were made on @SaveBrightStart *before* it went to Council & @bhlabour were just waving it through without scrutiny. The complaint was dismissed on the grounds "it wouldn't change the outcome". This keeps happening, and it is not democracy 😡
@SaveBrightStart@bhlabour@UKLabour@bphillipsonMP@BellaSankey Think all of @brightonhovecc decisions on school closures that ended up with the adjudicator got thrown out or criticised too, eg Goldstone, Patcham, St Bart's + more - dreadful handling of things by Labour cllrs - incl very short-sighted and illogical decision on Bright Start
In June, we asked why @bhlabour was cutting Bright Start before an election where @UKlabour had pledged to expand childcare. We were ignored. Now, @bphillipsonMP wants to create more state nurseries. It's a shame @BellaSankey's council has just cut them. https://t.co/ooGxltgAlo
The gravy train has barely pulled into the station but has wasted no time getting on board. What has @chriswardmp done to earn this hospitality worth £1,660?
Now @bhlabour have given up even pretending that they actually make decisions at Cabinet meetings
Shows how little they respect members of the public who show up to ask questions and make deputations on agenda items. Hardly the 'listening council' they say they are

Daming article about @bhlabour's approach to primary schools. School's adjudicators: "the council’s approach to the problem it faces is hampered to some extent by this apparent unwillingness to consider more flexible primary school arrangements." https://t.co/vFG7PHTpDy
Please watch this brilliant speech from my lovely friend about what cuts to @SaveBrightStart mean for her family & her ability to work. @bhlabour are taking childcare away from frontline workers in the City. They need to consider the wider implications. @CitizensBH@sianberry
Last Thursday, Kiran, one of the Bright Start mums, presented our petition to @BrightonHoveCC. She explained why @BHLabour must stop the closure of the baby room. Watch her speech here: #savebrightstart. https://t.co/6Hcwafft9Q
It's great to hear your enthusiasm for early years, @bphillipsonMP . But @bhlabour is still pressing ahead with cuts to Bright Start Nursery, including the closure of the baby room. Please stop the cuts that are happening now; it's not too late!
Early years is about more than just childcare – it’s about giving every child the best start in life. It sits right at the centre of my vision for education.
We'll deliver a sea change in our early years system, and that work begins now.

Last night Labour-led Leeds City Council 'scrutiny' agreed to closure of three Little Owls nurseries. Why won't the council hold on to see what @UKLabour will do? Their manifesto promised "not just more childcare, but better childcare & early education" https://t.co/Rts651m6sS
@RichardBurgon@SaveLittleOwls Public nurseries are under threat across the country, with cuts and closures also planned in Hackney @Save_Fernbank, Brighton, @SaveBrightStart & Wandsworth @WandsworthNEU ... you'd hope the new Gov see councils pause for thought about these cuts to early years education & care
Greens have submitted an amendment to the petition which calls for a report to come to a future People Overview and Scrutiny Committee, rather than just being ‘noted’
If you have a Labour councillor, you can email and ask them to support our amendment: https://t.co/Ld6boErZ96
Agreed. @bhlabour shouldn’t be CLOSING @SaveStpeters1 nursery either! Thanks to them, I will have to cut my hours and lose £££ because of it. During a cost-of-living crisis this is shameful. This has your name @BellaSankey directly attached to this. Not a good look…
We're still fighting for the @SaveBrightStart babyroom because people are still having babies & need childcare! Now there's a new @UKLabour government @bhlabour should be funding council-run nurseries not cutting them. Please support us @ 4.30 Thurs Hove Town Hall if you can 🙏🏽
