Last night, a motion of no confidence in @ProfSPickering was brought forward. With overwhelming support, it passed.
Thanks to students, staff, media, politicians & industry professionals who attended the meeting & voted.

1 in 8 Australian university workers have lost their jobs in the pandemic. The Morrison governments response? To stop universities from getting JobKeeper, and to cut university funding
So Minister Alan Tudge says he is “surprised” that more than 17,000 families lost a job from higher ed lst year.
Now that he is aware, what’s the plan to #SaveHigherEd? @naamanzhou
Confirmation that the Theatre programs at both Latrobe and Murdoch are to be shut down (after Monash and Newcastle) continues apace the attack on the Arts in this country, and the race among Uni admins to be the first to the bottom line. #AcademicTwitter#theatre
@janegriffiths10@Monash_Arts@SaveCTP But amongst this horrible smoking fucking tragedy, the alumni/faculty/creatives remain standing tall and strong and - due to what the CTP was - a formidable army of excellent and well-rounded humans ready to take on the world (and hold future BS to account) through their art.
Australia: where we’ll put healthcare workers at risk, gut the universities, let the arts collapse, allow at-risk workers to go hungry and small business to go bankrupt without any financial support, but GOD FORBID we should cancel a male-led sporting event!
Melbourne is rightly proud of its performing arts culture, and until March this year – before the longest theatre closures in modern Australian history – it was in full bloom. Cameron Woodhead looks back at a year that was - and wasn't. https://t.co/sRqOIpujzw
Thanks for mentioning the institutional loss the closure of @MonashUni's Centre for Theatre and Performance in the year that wasn't in theatre & @janegriffiths10's role in transforming the Centre. @SaveCTP#auspol
I had always hoped that one day I’d do an Mres or PhD at @monashctp. It was one of the most exciting theatre depts in the country. A huge loss. @Monash_Arts should be ashamed.
Yet another devastating attack on performing arts education in Australia, please sign the petition to help our friends at Flinders University✊ https://t.co/LxoxedPnJw
@FleurKilpatrick @Monash_Arts @ProfSPickering Fleur is right that students weren't consulted. Indeed, they weren't able to meet with the Dean or other senior managers at Monash for more than 2 months. Students eventually passed a motion of no confidence in Monash's Dean of Arts, Sharon Pickering.
@FleurKilpatrick @Monash_Arts It's part of a doleful trend of major univesities attacking their arts and humanities courses. We've seen similar attacks at Newcastle, ANU, and Griffith, just to name three
@FleurKilpatrick @Monash_Arts Monash is killing off the Theatre and Performance major and amalgamating the Centre for Theatre and Performance into the Music School. A number of academics are losing their jobs, including Fleur.
I must clarify, theres little sense of our abandonment by tutors & mentors. They have given so much to us this year. We do feel abandoned by a callous institution & those in power who stand by & watch, content with dedicated faculty being ushered out in silence. #SaveOurCTP
"...disappointed for and galvanised by graduating theatre students @melbournefringe , those from @MonashUni in particular. Their theatre school is closing and they must have felt totally abandoned during 2020. But still they forged on." Read more: https://t.co/HTmiQvJfZE
My colleague @FleurKilpatrick has written a beautiful piece for the NTEU Advocate about what it's like to teach her last class in Theatre and Performance at @Monash_Arts
