We are delighted to have joined the national launch of the #DayOfTheAfricanChild 2026 in Marsabit County, a significant milestone in advancing children's rights and meaningful child participation across Kenya.
Guided by the theme, "Ensuring Universal Access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Every Child in Africa," the event brought together children, government leaders, development partners, civil society organizations, and communities to champion every child's right to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene.
Children took center stage by sharing their experiences, presenting recommendations to leaders, and calling for greater investment in services that support their health, dignity, and future.
As we count down to the national celebrations on 16 June, we remain committed to amplifying children's voices and advocating for increased investment in safe water, sanitation and hygiene services, ensuring every child can grow, learn and thrive in a healthy and dignified environment.

A Global Call for #ClimateAction starts with empowering children.
At Canaan Primary School inTurkana, members of the 4K Club shared how they are turning knowledge into action—planting trees, protecting natural resources, and promoting environmental stewardship within their school and community. Their efforts demonstrate that climate solutions are most effective when children are placed at the centre of change.
To encourage and celebrate their commitment, we shared climate-themed bags, T-shirts, and educational books carrying messages on climate action and environmental conservation. These resources help reinforce the importance of protecting our planet while empowering children to become advocates for a greener, more sustainable future.
The climate crisis demands collective action, and these young champions are showing that real solutions begin with awareness, education, and action. Together, we can build a safer, healthier, and more resilient world for every child.

This role will primarily focus on support operations of the SCI global team based in the East Africa Office.
Health services should reach children where they are.
Our Humanitarian Manager, Moses Emalu, shares how Save the Children’s integrated outreaches are bringing essential health and nutrition support closer to children and mothers in hard-to-reach communities.
Sustainability of community projects remains Save the Children’s key priority. In Shaabah Village, this commitment is clearly taking shape.
Like many communities we work with, we were encouraged to see how the Shaabah community is taking ownership, ensuring the water system is maintained, managed, and sustained for the future. Local leadership is playing a critical role in driving the long-term functionality of a water project that has been operational since its construction in 2024 through the support of the Office of Foreign Assistance, @USEmbassyKenya.
During our engagement with the community water management committee, we gained valuable insight into how the system is managed on a day-to-day basis. The committee plays a vital role in coordinating maintenance, managing daily operations, and ensuring the water point remains fully functional over time.
Through shared responsibility and community contributions, the system continues to operate effectively, demonstrating strong local ownership, accountability, and sustainability.
We are honoured to have hosted a high-level delegation from the Office of Foreign Assistance (OFA), @USEmbassyKenya , comprising Ruth Tiampati and Emily Mkungo, during a multi-day field visit to Garissa County.
The visit provided an opportunity to witness firsthand how integrated humanitarian interventions are transforming lives in drought-affected communities, while strengthening collaboration with county leadership, partners, and frontline teams.
Through field engagements in Fatuma Golicha Outreach Site, the delegation observed the delivery of life-saving health and nutrition services, bringing essential care closer to communities that would otherwise travel long distances to access treatment. They also visited a community water project in Shabah Village, where improved access to safe water is easing daily burdens and supporting healthier, more resilient households.
The visit further included engagements with the County Government of Garissa, technical health teams, and partners, reinforcing the importance of coordinated action in addressing complex humanitarian needs. At Garissa County Referral Hospital, the delegation interacted with health workers supporting maternal and child health services, gaining deeper insight into ongoing efforts to strengthen health systems.
Through the support of OFA, Save the Children has been implementing an integrated Nutrition and WASH emergency response programme across Garissa and Wajir counties, focused on improving food security, treating malnutrition, strengthening livelihoods, and expanding access to safe water in communities affected by recurring climate shocks.
This visit reaffirmed the power of partnership, local leadership, and community-driven solutions in ensuring that children survive, grow, and thrive—even in the most challenging environments.

We concluded a powerful two-day review meeting of the Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) Project implemented in Makadara and Kamukunji sub-counties in Nairobi, supported by Save the Children Korea.
The convening brought together Nairobi County health teams, frontline providers, community health promoters, and partners to reflect, learn, and strengthen our collective impact.
Against a backdrop where too many children are still lost to preventable causes, the conversations were honest, data-driven, and grounded in real community experiences. The meeting created space not only to review what has been achieved so far, but also to confront persistent gaps in service delivery, workforce capacity, and access to quality care, especially in underserved communities.
What stood out most was the shared commitment to move beyond discussion into action, with strong alignment on strengthening community health systems, improving the quality of care for common childhood illnesses, enhancing referral pathways, and ensuring that data is not just collected but actively used to guide decisions and improve outcomes. The role of community health promoters remained central, with a renewed focus on equipping and supporting them as the first line of care for families.
Together, we are working towards a future where no child dies from preventable causes, and every mother and child has access to the care they deserve.

Across long distances and tough terrain, our teams are going the extra mile, carrying hope, care, and life-saving services to children in the most remote communities, to ensure every child stays healthy, has access to clean and safe water, learns in school, and is protected.
This #LabourDay, we celebrate their dedication and bravery, and proudly celebrate Kenyans doing amazing work across every sector, driving progress, building communities, and shaping a better future for all. Happy #LabourDay2026
From classrooms constructions to the distribution of assistive devices to children living with disabilities, @SaveChildren_Ke through Accelerated Education Program (AEP) centres is driving inclusive education and transforming lives across Dadaab refugee camps, with the generous support of the @EU_Commission. ✨
Through the Accelerated Education Program, learners once excluded from education due to displacement and hardship are now getting a second chance, and thriving. Across all our AEP centres, 100% of learners who sat for end‑term exams met or exceeded expectations, proving that accelerated, inclusive learning works.
This impact goes beyond classrooms, it restores dignity, confidence and hope, opening pathways to brighter futures through education. 💙

It was a great honor to host Save the Children’s Chiefs of Finance, Abdul Jabbar, Luis Pabon, and Gunilla Kinnestrand, who travelled to #Kakuma and #Kalobeyei alongside government partners during their recent visit to Kenya.
Their visit to the #Kalobeyei Reception Centre and #Kakuma Refugee Camp provided an opportunity to witness both the progress made and the ongoing challenges facing the #refugee response.
It also highlighted the strength of partnerships with government and NGOs, which continue to advance child protection, positive parenting, and community integration.
However, shrinking funding remains a significant concern, placing increasing pressure on essential services such as #education, #healthcare, #food, and #water.
The visit reinforced our shared commitment to ensuring that every child, whether a refugee or from the host community, has access to #protection, #education, and hope for a brighter #future.
