The 2017 Local Plan severely impacts Ripley and surrounding villages with huge new housing developments in the Green Belt. Please object to save our village!
Building thousands of houses in #ourgreenbelt does NOTHING to improve affordability or meet genuine local housing need. It does, however, generate more profits for the big developers. Green Belt countryside, once built on, is lost forever. #NeedNotGreed@cpre@cpresurrey
Healthy democracy prioritises community needs and aspirations - and the #environment - over the financial interests of private companies. Sadly England's entire #planning system favours the latter over the former. This has to change.

@PropMatters_ Persimmons & the big 8 are targeting £45 sq ft build costs. The quality of new homes is falling. They are building sheds but charging for mansions. We must change our planning system to get SME’s building 70% of houses again and bring competition back into the market & better VFM
Speaker after speaker pointing out that @GuildfordBC has not satisfactorily demonstrated "exceptional circumstances" for re-drawing #greenbelt boundaries. Nor has the council lived up to its "#brownfield first" commitment. https://t.co/Q4uTWWc5xn
Wisley Airfield has just been rejected by the Secretary of State.
Grounds for refusal - openness of the Green Belt, views into and out of the AONB, use of rural roads, impact on rural hamlet - apply to almost all other Green Belt sites in Guildford LP https://t.co/6ha3I8rnU6
Legion of QCs representing developers and commercial interests at this Local Plan examination. No wonder people are so put off by the planning system today when it often appears to be such a David v Goliath battle where we, the people, face such overwhelming odds. https://t.co/UeL69lTX2A
It’s been one of the most controversial of the local housing plans in Surrey, including potential development on the green belt. Today public hearings, overseen by a planning inspector, into what @GuildfordBC is proposing get underway. It’s all due to start at 10am.
"#Planning is pointless if the outcomes it delivers would be little different from what would happen without a planning system", and yet this is what the new #NPPF will give us.
From @CPRE's response to the #NPPF consultation.
Hum.
What are these principles?
Developers shall have the right to make a super-profit building homes that most people can’t afford on agricultural land that they’ve bought for a fraction of the development value with an option if they get permission to develop? https://t.co/KylIsH1S2S
"With no Green Belt everywhere will end up like Wembley! It is unfortunate that we cannot trust planning officials to look after our interests." N.E. #Pyrford
"This is a disgrace": emotional speech by @GuildfordLibDem@GuildfordBC Cllr Colin Cross accuses authorities of undermining Ripley's primary school and leeching pupils away @SurreyCouncil
"Los Angles is now so enormous that if you somehow managed to pick it up and plonk it down on England, it would extend from Brighton to Cambridge. That’s what happens if you don’t have a green belt." - Sir Andrew Motion https://t.co/VUo6Jq4r8B @CrispinBlunt@PaulMiner3 @TomCPRE
Affordability is being used as a pretext for surrendering #ourgreenbelt for housing development - but the facts speak for themselves. Giving up Green Belt land does nothing to help solve genuine #housing need. The only people to benefit are the developers. https://t.co/ZUzO1tej5O
The amount of land lost to housing development from our treasured Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty has increased five-fold since 2012 - an outrageous national betrayal. https://t.co/0hdcetKWI5
