Similipal’s ultra rare black tigers are being wiped out, and the crisis is escalating. Forest officials just seized the skin of a 2 yearold melanistic cub in Mayurbhanj, Odisha, arresting three operatives red-handed.
The young cub was slaughtered using crude wire snares set up along the reserve's fringe corridors.
This isnt an isolated incident, it is the third rare black tiger poached in Similipal in just over a year, following seizures in 2025 and March 2026.
While the skin has been sent to the Wildlife Institute of India for stripe matching, post-incident arrests are not enough.
This repetitive pattern exposes catastrophic protection gaps and an active poaching network targeting the world’s most unique, genetically distinct big cat population.
We need impenetrable fringe monitoring, zero-tolerance enforcement against snaring, and absolute accountability before the last of these tigers is gone.

The Calcutta High Court just ruled that killing a stray dog is a "mere accident" and not a crime. Comforting to know that innocent lives are officially classified as speed bumps now. 👏🙄🐕💔

Is Supreme Court's mandate to relocate stray dogs is responsible for mass illegal culling in states like Rajasthan and Punjab. When courts ignore economic realities, tragic animal cruelty follows. The SC must rethink this order.

The Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court has quashed a preventive detention order passed under the Jammu & Kashmir Public Safety Act, 1978 against a person accused in multiple FIRs relating to transportation of #cattle/bovine and offences under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
The Court held that such activities, even if true, fall within the realm of law and order and not public order, and that the ordinary criminal law is sufficiently equipped to deal with the same.

Killing thousands of trees and poisoning livestock for beer? That’s one way to drive sales, I guess. Haryana’s ₹39 lakh fine is just a drop of water in their chemical-soaked bucket. Cheers to “development.” 🍻🌳 #Haryana#Pollution#Environment

Mass removals to non-existent shelters is panic.
Science demands ABC: sterilise, vaccinate, release.
SC explicitly preserved the PCA Act 1960. Rule by evidence, not fear! @BhagwantMann@raghav_chadha#SavePunjabDogs#SaveIndianDogs

Rounding up a million dogs into non-existent shelters isn’t a solution -it’s panic. Science has the answer: sterilise, vaccinate, release. ABC works. It reduces populations humanely, cuts rabies, and respects life. Courts should back evidence, not fear. The good news is that an earlier, more balanced SC bench had directed that stray dogs be released back into their territory after sterilisation and vaccination — so there IS precedent for the humane ABC approach within the courts themselves. #compassionforanimals
Letter sent to CJI regarding @BhagwantMann publicly mischaracterising the SC order.
The SC NEVER authorized blanket mass elimination.
Don't rewrite constitutional judgments for cheap PR!

I have formally written to the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India regarding Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann public mischaracterisation of the Supreme Court’s order on stray dogs.
The SC order permits action only in specific legally defined cases involving rabid, incurably ill, or demonstrably dangerous dogs after veterinary assessment and under law.
It does NOT authorize a blanket mass elimination campaign.
