I am fully behind this, but probably not in the way Packham et al mean: All government action should have a specific quantifiable goal which, if it is not achieved, should lead to the cessation of said government action. This would be a scientific method of running a country.
@kunley_drukpa This is the only video I've ever seen of a British politican defending high levels of immigration. Politicians usually dodge the question or accuse anyone questioning it of racism. Makes it very hard to understand what the actual beliefs or motivations are behind it
People can't actually think critically because they don't care about the truth in itself emotionally.
All reasoning is motivated reasoning. People come to a conclusion with positive emotional valence for them, then justify it with reason.
It's only if the truth in itself has positive emotional valence that searching for it can outcompete easy conclusions and allow people to think critically.
Hardly anyone is like that though and I doubt it can be taught.
@ArtemisConsort It's a huge mistake for people to assume everyone "means" what they say as in, it reflects an honesty held logically coherent belief. People are often - or even mostly - just saying whatever they think will get the result they want, with no deeper meaning.
If you're ever wondering why the UK only ever gets bad governments, consider that you're only able to vote for people selected to be MPs by unelected party functionaries following internal bylaws, who therefore get to choose who is allowed to be in power, and there's no reason whatsoever to expect them to do a good job of it.
@FUDdaily Given the content of our politics in general, it'd take a lot more than this to make Reform look any worse than the others.
I can't speak for the normies out there though. They usually don't follow anything like this anyway so it might not even land.
@FUDdaily After Iraq and Afghanistan, whenever the establishment wants a war, I am immediately suspicious. It doesn't matter how justified it seems at the time, what will come to light later about the real motivations behind it?
Hypothetically, If I was an academic in a field that was 99% nonsense and plagiarism, and only a black guy ever got called out for it, I'd probably assume it was racism too
What I find really puzzling about it is the lack of foresight from the politicians involved. Labour's focusing on ethnic minority client groups because their general vote share has collapsed. But those groups will abandon them as soon as a more aligned option appears, which is already happening. Why can't they see it coming?
@jeremykauffman Previous generations of mothers probably had more support from immediate family to smooth over the postpartum period, whereas modern social atomisation puts more pressure on the mother herself
