On this topic, it amazes me that so-called "genocide scholars" do not see the obvious parallels between Israelis and the Tutsis.

The Rwanda genocide happened because a majority, the Hutu, consumed powerful state-funded propaganda that the minority, the Tutsi, were aligned with colonial powers and oppressing them. The spark that turned propaganda into all out slaughter was the death of the President, a Hutu, of Rwanda.

Hutu radicals, who had been calling Tutsi cockroaches and campaigning under the idea that it was necessary to kill or be killed when it came to the perfidious Tutsi, blamed the President's death on the Rwandan Patriotic Front, a Tutsi exile rebel army from Uganda. This was never proven, but it was a convenient conclusion for the Hutu radicals.

Within weeks, those very same Hutu radicals had killed hundreds of thousands of Tutsis along with the moderate Hutus that were considered traitors.

The initial response from the Western world was tepid, at best. It was true that the Belgians who colonized Rwanda elevated the Tutsi over the Hutu, calling them more civilized, and that many Tutsi were cooperative with the Belgians. By the 1950s, however, Belgium was more aligned with the Hutu majority, and many wealthy Tutsi were exiled from the country.

But the ethnic divisions were never forgotten, and they became the justification for decades of Hutu resentment that boiled over one day in 1994. Years of peace deals that never quite disarmed the Hutu radicals, and mostly restrained the exiled Tutsi rebels, were proven, in that moment, to have prioritized a false sense of stability that was ripped to pieces at the slightest instigation.

That sense of stability was so false that ordinary Hutus, spurred on by decades of radical propaganda nobody was willing to curb, used machetes, clubs, and knives to literally rip innocent men, women, and children to pieces with their bare hands. So totally had the Hutus dehumanized the Tutsis, that kill lists were distributed, and ordinary civilians gleefully participated.

Does that remind you of anything? It should. Time and time again, Palestinian terrorists have used the justification of historical slights to completely dehumanize Israelis. Third parties ignore this inconvenient truth, but it was revealed to them on October 7, 2023. Most eventually found some excuse to ignore it, because, unlike the Tutsi, Israelis do not share a country with those that are raised from birth to desire to see them ripped to pieces.

There will be no peace in the Middle East until there is a reckoning with what genocidal intent really is, and what it is not.
