Where is the conversation happening about the way the @OppenheimerFilm coming out this summer is likely to impact political engagement and activism on #nuclear#AI#climate and other dangers?
The good news is the generals are keeping calm: it was just an unmanned machine.
The bad news: the computers in the Pentagon are PISSED!
(AI - what could go wrong?๐คทโโ๏ธ)
The Pentagon released video of the events leading up to a Russian fighter jet colliding with an unarmed U.S. reconnaissance drone this week, forcing the American aircraft down into the Black Sea. https://t.co/VErpI6PSNq
ICYMI: Artificial intelligence (AI) has done amazing things for our society, but if left unregulated could also do significant harm. Wrote an op-ed in the @nytimes on the need to create a regulatory infrastructure for AI. Read: https://t.co/s7koclrfnJ
"I don't know if we can be trusted with such a weapon."
What does it mean when 22 million people are watching the #Oppenheimer trailer?

I'm pondering this G20 Leaders' "commitment" from Bali: "The use or threat of use of #nuclearweapons is inadmissible."

Today I'm paging through "Waiting for the End of the World" by @therichardross and wondering how many influential people think they have a shelter that will save them from nuclear war ....
@BackfromBrink @BASIC_int @NSquareCollab @ChrisSpedding@pwar82 @GeoffreyChpmn @heatherwilly@iccs_bham@RethinkingSecu1@ChathamHouse @ThirdNuclearAge I seem to remember some mapping (on a Google map?) has been done of the places where BFtB resolutions are happening ... ? Interesting to compare and contrast the two approaches to looking at the ecosystem ...
"Imagine a world . . . "
I'm coming to the conclusion we would be better off engaging a VAST number of people in imagining a world in which they somehow survive ... VS ... catering to a trivial number of people imagining we will force the US to relinquish its nuclear weapons.
Yes: in fact, putting a price on it -- and ARGUING ABOUT the price we put on it -- would be a huge step toward getting us from the pitiful position we're in today to the place we want to be ... #nuclearweapons#security
If a world free of nuclear weapons cost 10x as much as living under the constant threat of nuclear war shattering global civilization, I would still buy it.
We are told over and over again that nuclear weapons are necessary to keep the peace and that having nuclear weapons makes us safer.
Do you feel safer right now?
