Your support means a lot to me.
THE ECONOMY AND NATIONAL TRANSFORMATION
When we talk about the economy, we often talk about businesses, revenue, investment, taxation, policies and economic growth.
All of these matter.
But perhaps the most important question is:
How is the economy affecting the ordinary citizen?
What does economic growth mean to the woman in the market, the man running a small shop, the farmer, the artisan, the young graduate searching for work, or the parent struggling to feed a family?
Because an economy is not just statistics and policies. It is the lived experience of the people. A healthy economy should make it possible for people who are willing to work to provide for themselves and their families with dignity.
Can the average citizen afford food?
Can a small business survive and grow?
Can a young person find meaningful work?
Can families afford education, healthcare and decent housing?
These are economic questions too.
POVERTY MUST NOT BECOME A TOOL OF CONTROL
There is something deeply troubling when citizens become so economically vulnerable that their immediate survival depends on political patronage or periodic handouts.
Government support for vulnerable people can be necessary, especially during difficult times. But relief should not become a substitute for opportunity.
If empowerment continually means distributing bags of rice and food items, we should ask a bigger question:
Why are people not being empowered to earn enough to buy the rice themselves?
True empowerment is not permanent dependence.
It is a thriving business.
A productive farm.
A decent job.
A market where people can sell and make a profit.
Skills that can become sustainable income.
The goal should be to reduce dependency, not institutionalise it.
ECONOMIC POLICY MUST REACH THE MARKETPLACE
Economic policies should not be judged only from government offices or boardrooms. Their real test is the marketplace.
What happens to the trader buying stock?
The farmer transporting produce?
The artisan buying materials?
The shop owner paying rent?
The small business trying to survive rising costs?
The economy must work not only for the boardroom, but also for the marketplace. Not only for large corporations, but also for the small business owner. Not only for investors, but also for the ordinary citizen trying to make an honest living.
We need an economy where people can work, produce, earn, create businesses, employ others and live with dignity.
Government must create the right environment. Businesses must create value and opportunities. Citizens must contribute through productive work and responsible participation.
But economic transformation must ultimately be measured by more than revenue and growth figures.
It must be measured by what happens in the homes, shops, farms and marketplaces where ordinary people live and work.
The economy is the mother counting her day's sales.
It is the father calculating school fees.
It is the young person looking for a job.
It is the farmer trying to get produce to market.
It is the family asking:
“Will what I earn today be enough to take care of my family tomorrow?”
That is the economy too.
And if we genuinely want national transformation, our economic policies must make it easier, not harder, for ordinary citizens to build sustainable livelihoods.
The purpose of the economy is not the economy itself.
It is the people.

This is not just a video. It is a reflection of a conviction.
Our Founder, Emmanuel Amechi Mark, continues to hold firmly to the belief that Nigeria can become a better nation, even after experiencing the painful reality of kidnapping himself - https://t.co/Fr275rhveK
That experience could have deepened fear, frustration or withdrawal. Yet, he continues to choose hope, responsibility and action.
This is the kind of comradery and patriotic consciousness we need as a people, not the denial of our challenges, but the courage to believe that we can confront them and build something better together.
National transformation will not happen because one person believes in it. It will happen when that conviction begins to spread from one person to another.
His burden can become our collective responsibility.
Nigeria needs citizens who are willing to care, participate, encourage, speak up, contribute and keep hope alive.
#Changebeginswithme
This is my burden. And I know I cannot carry it alone.
So, I am asking you to join me.
You may not have the resources to do much. You may not have a platform. You may not even agree with everything I say.
But if you believe that Nigeria can become better, please walk this journey with me.
Watch the videos.
Think about the message.
Start a conversation.
And if you can, share them on your WhatsApp status, Facebook timeline, X, Instagram, or wherever you have a voice.
You may think it is just a share.
But sometimes, one message reaching one more person is how a movement begins.
This is my burden.
I invite you to make it ours.

A MESSAGE OF HOPE FOR NIGERIA 🇳🇬
“There is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again.”
A tree may be cut down, stripped of its branches and left looking lifeless. Yet, when there is still a scent of water, something begins to happen beneath the surface. New shoots emerge. Life returns. Hope rises again.
Nigeria may have faced deep challenges. We may have seen opportunities wasted, institutions weakened, dreams delayed and many people lose faith in the possibility of a better nation.
But Nigeria is not without hope.
The question is not whether Nigeria can change. The question is what are we willing to commit to, together, to make that change possible?
Real hope is not merely wishing for a better Nigeria.
Real hope is intentional commitment to building one.
It is the teacher who chooses excellence.
The parent who raises children with values.
The young person who chooses integrity over shortcuts.
The leader who puts service above self.
The citizen who refuses to normalize corruption, injustice and indifference.
The professional who does his work with excellence.
The community that chooses cooperation over division.
Transformation may not happen overnight. But every honest action, every responsible choice, every life positively influenced and every institution strengthened adds another drop to the soil.
And where there is a scent of water, there is hope of life.
This Independence Day, let us not only celebrate the Nigeria we inherited.
Let us commit to the Nigeria we can build.
Because real hope comes from what we are committed to do together.
🇳🇬 Nigeria will not transform by wishing.
Nigeria will transform when we choose to become part of the transformation.
Change begins with me.
Change begins with us.

Education cannot remain a conversation about certificates, classrooms and examinations.
At Scent Of Water Initiative, we believe education must produce people who can think, solve problems, demonstrate integrity and take responsibility for their communities.
A nation cannot sustainably transform without transforming its people.
That is why we must ask not only, “What is government doing about education?” but also:
What are we teaching?
What are we modelling?
What kind of citizens are we producing?
The Nigeria and Africa we desire tomorrow are being shaped by the people we educate today.
Education is human infrastructure.
And national transformation begins when individuals understand that they are not spectators in the development of their society.
Change begins with me and you.

EDUCATION AND NATIONAL TRANSFORMATION
Why are we still where we are as a nation and, indeed, as a continent?
As a graduate of Sociology and Anthropology, majoring in National Development, I have come to appreciate that the transformation of any society begins with the quality of its people.
And that brings me to Education.
We have treated education largely as a sector of government. I believe we must begin to see it as a national transformation strategy.
Education is more than classrooms, examinations and certificates. It shapes how people think, reason, solve problems, relate with others and understand responsibility.
We can produce millions of graduates and still have a poorly educated society if those graduates lack critical thinking, integrity, civic responsibility, creativity and problem-solving skills.
This is partly why many of our problems keep reproducing themselves.
A child watches adults manipulate systems, celebrate wealth without questioning its source, disregard rules and participate in practices they publicly condemn. Then we send that child to school and expect the school alone to produce a transformed citizen.
It doesn't work that way.
Society itself is a classroom.
Our children are constantly learning from what we teach them, what we tolerate, what we reward and what we demonstrate.
This is why education must go beyond preparing young people to pass examinations or find jobs.
We need an education system that develops:
• Critical thinkers
• Problem solvers
• Innovators
• Ethical leaders
• Responsible citizens
• Entrepreneurs
• People who understand that national development is also their responsibility.
Africa's greatest resource is not oil, gold or diamonds.
It is its people.
But resources do not transform nations by themselves.
People do.
And people need knowledge, skills, values, discipline, creativity and consciousness to turn resources into sustainable development.
Government has a huge responsibility, but national transformation cannot be outsourced entirely to government.
Parents have a role.
Teachers have a role.
Schools have a role.
Businesses have a role.
Religious institutions have a role.
Civil society has a role.
And every citizen has a role.
We must stop asking only:
"What will Nigeria do for me?"
We must also ask:
"What am I contributing to Nigeria?"
The Nigeria of tomorrow is currently sitting in our classrooms.
The Africa of tomorrow is currently being raised in our homes.
If we genuinely want a different future, we must begin by producing people who are equipped and prepared to build it.
Education is not just preparation for earning a living.
It should be preparation for thinking, living responsibly, solving problems, building communities and transforming society.
This is why I believe we must give Education its rightful place, not merely as another government sector, but as human infrastructure for national transformation.
#changebeginswithme and you.
Imagine a Nigeria where the President can walk among ordinary citizens, greet a shop owner, wave to a child on her way to school, and exchange pleasantries with a driver, not surrounded by fear, chaos, or an overwhelming security presence, but with a sense of safety, trust and connection. It may seem like a distant dream, but every great transformation begins with a vision of what is possible.
The Nigeria we desire will not be built by government alone. It will be built by citizens who choose integrity over corruption, responsibility over indifference, and service over selfishness. The change we seek in our communities and our nation begins with the choices we make every day. Change begins with us. 🇳🇬

Teachers' Back2School workshop
Having just concluded our FREE BACK2SCHOOL CORPORATE WORKSHOP for secondary school students, we left with something else to think deeply about.
We are increasingly concerned about the competency, capacity and preparedness of some teachers in our schools.
If we want better students, we must also invest in the people who teach, guide and influence them.
This has led us to consider another initiative:
BACK2SCHOOL WORKSHOP, TEACHERS' VERSION
A practical capacity-building programme designed to help teachers gain better insights on their ability to impart knowledge and manage students.
We believe that teachers don't just teach subjects, they shape minds, attitudes and futures.
So, should we take this conversation to the teachers?
What do you think about a BACK2SCHOOL WORKSHOP, TEACHERS' VERSION?
What areas do you think such a workshop should address?
We would love to hear your thoughts, suggestions and recommendations.

For years, we have complained about insecurity, poor leadership, unemployment, corruption, economic hardship, declining education and the many challenges confronting Nigeria. Our frustrations are legitimate, but complaining alone will not change our country. At some point, we must move from asking, “What is Nigeria doing for me?” to asking, “What can I do for Nigeria?”
That is the spirit behind the PATRIOTS SUMMIT, coming up on October 1st, 2026. This is more than a gathering to lament our problems; it is a call to citizens who believe that national transformation begins when individuals take responsibility and become part of the solution. We may not be able to change everything, but each of us can change something.
The Summit is for young people, students, professionals, entrepreneurs, educators, community leaders, creatives, civil society actors, business owners, faith leaders, policymakers, and every Nigerian who still believes that a better Nigeria is possible. You don't need to hold political office or possess extraordinary resources to make an impact. You only need the willingness to contribute, collaborate and act.
🎥 Watch the video and help us spread the message. If you believe Nigeria deserves better, please repost, share and send this video to someone who needs to hear it. Let us turn our frustrations into ideas, our ideas into action, and our action into impact. This Independence Day, let us stop asking only what Nigeria can do for us—and start asking what we can do for Nigeria. 🇳🇬

Happy New Month! 🎉
Welcome to September! May this new month bring you fresh opportunities, renewed strength, greater success, and countless reasons to smile. May all your efforts yield beautiful results.
Happy New Month! ❤️
Here’s a more compelling, emotionally resonant version while keeping your original message and call to action:
This is a deeply painful, and gruesome reality we continue to live with as a people.
Reports of police brutality and extrajudicial killings seem to have become an unbearable pattern, with the situation appearing to grow worse with each passing year. Too many lives have been cut short. Too many families have been left with nothing but grief, anger and unanswered questions.
Our cries have reached the ears of the high and mighty. We have protested. We have lamented. We have demanded justice. Yet, meaningful and lasting remedies still seem painfully far away.
But we must not give up.
If we truly want to change this story, then our response must go beyond lamentation. We must become intentional. We must organize, educate, engage, empower and build communities that demand accountability while also raising citizens who are committed to doing things differently.
At @ScentofwaterN, we have chosen to start where we are and with what we have. We are exploring practical ways to contribute to a better Nigeria, through education, youth development, community engagement, leadership development and initiatives that inspire citizens to take responsibility for the society we all share.
Some of these steps may seem small and insignificant today. But every meaningful transformation begins somewhere. We will keep going, keep learning, keep building and keep growing the momentum.
You can be part of it.
If you are a well-meaning Nigerian who believes that this country can be better, join us. Support the work. Volunteer. Partner with us. Share the message. Start something in your own community.
Because the Nigeria we desperately hope for will not be built by waiting for someone else to save it.
The change we seek will begin with you and me.
#ScentOfWater #ChangeBeginsWithYou #Nigeria #PoliceBrutality #Accountability #NationalTransformation #CommunityDevelopment
This resonates deeply with what we believe and practice at Scent of Water Initiative for People’s Development. We believe sustainable community transformation requires more than good intentions, it requires listening, collaboration, empowering people with knowledge and skills, and creating opportunities that continue to produce impact long after a programme ends.
Through our initiatives in education, youth development, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, personal development and community engagement, we have seen how much can be achieved when organizations, businesses and communities work together.
We are therefore actively seeking partnerships and collaborations with businesses, foundations, NGOs and other well-meaning organizations that share this vision. Together, we can move beyond one-off interventions and build programmes that create continuous, measurable and lasting impact in our communities.
Change Begins With You. #ChangeBeginsWithMe
@TonyElumeluFDN This is a great point. We're happy about the impact your foundation is making among young Africans. We urge other well-meaning organizations and individuals to join us all to make Africa a better continent.
