Was it Diocletian's reforms that forced familal bondage to their careers? I know you mentioned it wrt the legions at one point, but it felt like you skipped how exactly the Legions went from a potential fast track to success to a stagnant backwater.

@mikeduncan Been relistening to Rome Podcast; in the Crisis years you talk about how the Legions was an escape from provincial life, but by late 4th/early 5th cent it was a refuge of the foolish and insane. What changed?

@mikeduncan Was relistening to History of Rome and had a curious thought. If Pompey/Senate had won Civil War, could it have resulted in a 'Turkish' situation, where the Senate has nominal supreme authority but the Legions would intercede if they get out of hand?

@kazutoki Saw the english names on ACES WEB. Was curious, shouldn't 'Shilage' be Szilagyi for Mihaly? Since they are both Hungarian.

I kinda can't believe that in this day and age there's still hand-wringing over whether the Shinji and Kaworu stuff in NGE 'is gay'. Maybe it's just because I'm bi, but the amount of 'it's not gay because x' I've encountered with fans is pretty disheartening. @KickTheBeckett

@foolycoolyLDN I get why people care about this though; Trans people are pretty marginalized as is, and even if it's a minority, Cis paranoiacs trying to root out 'fifth columnists' can't be great for their wellbeing. So I have no issue with people giving TERFs shit.
