Would you pay $399 for a robot duck that learned to walk inside a simulation?
These are Microducks, on stage with Jensen Huang at NVIDIA GTC Berlin. Here's what happens:
0:00 four tiny bipeds wander the stage
0:04 he tells them to sit, and they crouch down
0:21 "take a nap", and they lie down on the floor
0:24 he asks for a somersault
0:27 a couple of them tumble, then get back on their feet
0:37 one needs a hand getting up
Each one is 25 cm tall, under 800 g, with 15 motors. Built by Pollen Robotics, the robotics team at Hugging Face. Its moves are trained in a simulated world first, then moved onto the real robot.
Cute desk toy, or the cheapest way into robotics?
Would you hire a robot as your bodyguard?
Unitree calls this one the H2-X Kung Fu Legend Guardian. Here's what it does:
0:00 jump kicks across a junkyard of crushed cars
0:04 kicks a car door, again and again
0:10 kicks up a cloud of dust
0:23 sparks flying off its feet
Unitree says it runs for up to about 8 hours.
Would you feel safer with one at your door, or less safe?
Would you let a robot load your dishwasher?
Here's what it actually does:
0:00 picks a glass up off the table
0:05 carries it across the kitchen
0:08 sets it in the top rack
0:10 goes back to the sink for the next one
0:26 stands up, job done
It's slow for now, but it doesn't get tired or bored.
