"Amid widespread acknowledgment that we live on a planet in peril, the term 'ecocide' packs a powerful rhetorical punch"
Prof. Hamilton makes a case for the expressive power of #EcocideLaw in the Harvard Human Rights Journal.

When ecosystems are destroyed, communities lose their homes, livelihoods, and futures.
Criminalising this mass environmental destruction through #EcocideLaw protects what we all depend on: a living planet.

On May 14, 2025, @CSE_Climate shared a striking statistic: weather extremes have resulted in 35,000 deaths in India over the past two decades. This data emphasises the severe human toll of climate change in the country.

It appears like the Govt., Judiciary & Civil Society Have Given Up!
Despite a 2016 judgment quashing the Environmental Clearance (EC) for this project, calling "the entire EIA process tainted"... (Review was dismissed, appeal in SC was withdrawn)
Despite the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEFCC) refusing EC in 2019—even when the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) recommended it... (happens rarely)
Despite a showcause notice by the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) in November 2024 for illegal construction...
Despite the National Green Tribunal (NGT) issuing notices in an Execution Application (August 2024) and another "suo motu" case on the original judgment...
No regulator has stopped the destruction being carried out by Adani Group for an illegal Coal Thermal Power Plant in in Mirzapur forest since June 2024.
This isn’t just any forest—it is part of the proposed "Sloth Bear Conservation Reserve", surrounded by 11 Reserve Forests and home to over 20 Schedule I species. The location 'Dadri Khurd' was in fact recorded as a forest in the UP Gazette of 1952.
My heart breaks for the bears and the wildlife habitat of this part of the country where I have spent years studying, conserving and what I call my home!
A country that claims to be the world’s largest democracy, a State that prides itself on bulldozing illegal structures, & a tribunal which claims to be protector of India's environment—yet here, they stand silent & refuse to stop it. Why? What is stopping them?
If this doesn’t concern you, if it isn’t enough to make you speak up, then we must confront a grim reality—we are a society morally dead, merely surviving.
Sharing some latest photos from 15-16 February 2025. The project has not received any EC or FC.
@byadavbjp@myogiadityanath With due respect, I am really disappointed with the failure of the govt to stop this illegal construction despite all evidences.

9/9 Let's honour and protect the anthropological, ecological, and cultural wealth of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The world must learn from, not rob, these guardians of the earth.
Post from: @ENV_ASP

1/9 The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are home to some of the world's most isolated and unique indigenous groups, including the Shompen, Great Andamanese, Onge, Jarawa, and Sentinelese. These communities are living links to our ancestral past.
@ScientistRebel1@Survival
8/9 It's imperative that we advocate for policies that empower these indigenous groups, ensuring they can continue to live and govern according to their traditions. Their anthropological significance is a testament to human diversity and resilience.
Rain for about 10 hrs has pushed to suspending of operations from 1230hrs to 1900hrs. We just wondering about the future situation if #GreenfieldAirport is built on lakes and water reservoirs.
Hightime, we rethink about the project #Parandur#CycloneFengal#ChennaiRains
On the international day against patriarcal violence on women, we repost our thread on how women and children are among the most impacted people by climate and environmental crises.
By tweaking the definitions of "forest" and "tree," both can be shown as having increased!
P.S. We have a history of considering tea estates and coconut plantations as forests!
🚫 #Thread: Why Parandur Airport Project Needs a HARD NO! 🧵
1/8 Let's talk about the elephant in the room - the massive 4000+ acre land acquisition for #ParandurAirport. This isn't just numbers, it's about 3000+ families' ancestral lands & livelihoods! We lack the #Anthropological and #Sociological perspective!
