Conservation Division for @SciTechmuseum @AvSpaceMuseum & @AgMuseum in Ottawa. Division de restauration @SciTechCanada @MuseeAvEspace & @MuseeAgri à Ottawa
Did you know conservators sometimes use their spit to clean artifacts? Conservator Jacqueline Riddle is guest writing for the monthly "3 things you should know..." blog in @MichelleCbell's absence. https://t.co/O1rMI58a89
#ClosureWeek at @avspacemuseum means training for our guides. Today we are exploring conservation practices and agents of deteriorating for collections with our @SciTechPreserv team
Defeating the forces of evil to preserve digital objects! The @IngeniumCa Digital Preservation Lab had a blast at the Game History Symposium We enjoyed meeting everyone and learning about your great projects!

@chicklets_1999@SciTechPreserv@aricheson@AgMuseum@IngeniumCa @CAPC_ACRP @conservators From our Conservator Rejean Demers: "The spiders were released from the Fairey Firefly, cat no. 1993.0196 , while being transported overseas in a RCAF Hercules while a Conservator was on-board. Treatment had to wait until he climbed down off the wall." 😆😮😬
#AskAConservator why is 🚭smoking🚭bad? In addition to the adverse health☠️effects, it causes staining that lasts for decades! Check out these before/after photos of removing🟡yellow🟡nicotine🚬stains from a ca. 1968 Zenith television📺set. @SciTechMuseum@IngeniumCa@PHAC_GC
Happy birthday CCI!🎉🙂 @SciTechPreserv is proud to be your neighbor just down the road in Ottawa. We have been fortunate to work jointly on cool projects, such as analyzing this degraded foam to support the reproduction work on the electronic Sackbut!
@aricheson@AgMuseum@IngeniumCa @CAPC_ACRP @conservators We check all artifacts for pests as they enter our collection. Some farm artifacts can be tricky due to their large size🚜! No unusual pests - but we found hundreds of dead🐭mice🐁in a thresher😱🥲. IPM essentials: monitor, isolate, vacuum/remove debris and fumigate/freeze.
@danmcknight@avspacemuseum@IngeniumCa@conservators We have many artifacts in our collections that are one of a kind! Advanced research & preservation strategies are needed & experts are consulted. The CF-105 Avro Arrow combined new, unproven technologies, which had not yet had the benefit of service development #AskAConservator
@PhotoCons@CAC_ACCR That's pretty chilly! Our walk-in calls for more of a light jacket! It is 4°C, used to store food artifacts & sensitive 3D plastics, foams, glass slides & batteries. We store colour photographic prints, negatives in chest freezers (-18°C) - no parka required! #AskAConservator
@SciTechPreserv@PhotoCons Haha, it's both! I'm doing a inspection in our cold vault. It's where we store our colour photographic prints, colour negatives and deteriorated diacetate negatives. We keep it at a chilly -18°C (± 2°C) and 30% relative humidity (± 5%).
