@JoshuaTCharles He's talking about mortal sin here, right? I thought that venial sin can be purified in purgatory which is not infinite, although it probably feels like it.
@dpolehn Before cancer, I would have said to look good at the beach and mog on beer-gut Dads. Now, I realize it is my shield of protection against the ravages of the cancer and the treatments. It also helps maintain remission.
@GiffLasta I think that these scripts and reframes are great and could work, but this assumes the husband has burning attraction for his wife. Many wives let themselves go...
@SteveSkojec I would have never believed this until our Bishop suspended our beloved local Priest suddenly for no articulable reason, forbidding all contact with him. Now...I'm not so sure.
@canceledpriests This just happened in our parish. Beloved local Priest removed with the flimsiest of explanations (no crime, no moral failing). Why do Bishops do this?
@aimeeterese Exactly, and if that man is religious, he is also told he cannot use porn or self-pleasure as a relief valve, b/c that is a sin (for the record, porn is bad). However, you never hear the church reminding wives of their marital duties.
@CoffeeBlackMD How do you know when you're at the point of futility? What if the next clinical trial is the one that produces another 3 years of remission?
@charcoded Watch enjoyment really is diminishing returns, as well. A $5k watch is not 5x more enjoyable than a $1k watch. That's why I stopped chasing grails and collect watches in the $500-$1500 range.
@bowtiedmeathead Yes, I have a long-time friend who is always getting himself into drama. He got fired from a good corporate job, sued the company, lost, yolo'd 401k into shitcoins, got divorced, years of divorce drama, etc...He seems to create drama when none need exist.
@metathomist we like to travel around the upper midwest to various spots and we'll often attend Mass at a parish like this and it's somehow so reassuring and grounding.
@JoshuaTCharles Even within the Catholic church choosing virtue is difficult. I converted and joined a parish, and now that parish is bitterly infighting over a decision by the Bishop to remove our Priest. Accusations and gossip, anger and resentment.
