#MyScienceMay starts today!
I'm Helen, a part-time medical scientist @WestSydHealth We research how white blood cells cause heart attack and poor wound healing.
Non-work time is filled with watching my three kids, drinking tea, baking, and eating chocolate.
This week is #HeartWeek (May 5 -9) ❤️🩺🫶
#Heartdisease remains the leading cause of death in Australia. At HRI, we encourage everyone to be aware of the signs of #heartattack and #stroke and to see their GP for #HeartHealthCheck.

Enjoyed visiting the @NSWHSBiobank today! Really cool to see the people and robots at work in this purpose-built facility. Our FH biobank has just begun, but we're hoping to have 500 samples upon completion.
Had a very good time at at @sydFMH_EMCR sessions. Some lovely chats in the breaks (including @DrMelodyDing@cancer_K2A and Dr Habib Francis)! I learned about noisy knees, and bad sleep in athletes. Missing out on Day 2 but will be at Day 3 (Westmead) for more!
Ever seen a badly dubbed movie? @LingZhangCan is showing us how using an avatar to deliver health information is great, but it's important when having a different language to ensure the mouth movements match the words! @sydFMH_EMCR
Dr Tian Wang is telling us the cardiovascular benefits of a healthy plant-based diet. I am feeling sad that potatoes, as starchy vegetables, don't count as positives for this classification. Probably less so when covered in cheese, butter, and/or sour cream @sydFMH_EMCR.
Next up, @jessicajorchard talking about screening ECGs in athletes to look for risk of sudden cardiac death. I was surprised to see how many sudden deaths occur during sleep and rest rather than during exercise @sydFMH_EMCR
Now @AliceInNutrland is telling us that among people with diabetes, men has more cardiovascular complications. Despite this, rates are high for both sexes @sydFMH_EMCR.
No photos, but loved hearing from @Dr_NChapman about the steps taken to try and create new ways of informing and empowering people with high blood pressure @sydFMH_EMCR. The power and value of consumer engagement.
Hearing from @DrMelodyDing who is matching her profile pic at the @sydFMH_EMCR Symposium. She's letting us know academia is tough even for superstars like her and reminding us to take time out to look after ourselves.
We are excited to see innovative research at the EMCR Networks Showcase next week! Join us at @Sydney_Uni Westmead and Camperdown campus to connect, collaborate, and celebrate the future of medical and health research. Let's inspire change together! https://t.co/xpdZVmLRpP
@DrEmmaBeckett I would guess the setup prompted him to confirm the people are aware and he was like "Yep, of course they are". I am yet to set up mine for my watch because I have to remember to ask my people first and being a rule-follower means I won't just click "yes" to that prompt 😆.
Delegates from more than 50 organisations from Australia and beyond gathered for the 2024 @SydCV_Symposium for sessions focused on cardiometabolic disease. Read our event wrap and check out all the photos from the day: https://t.co/K5yFm7fVar

A quick pic at @SydCV_Symposium with @Audrey_Adji who was part of @OzCvA #ACvACVchamps way back when. There were a few of us there but I didn't catch everyone for photos. Next time...
Phew… my mouth is dry from getting the message out about the link between mouth health and heart health to clinicians and researchers at the @SydCV_Symposium at the @GarvanInstitute! 🫀🦷 @WARC_USYD
