1/2 #Conasta69 has ended on a high with the post conference 🪐🔭🌟 @ARC_ASTRO3D Stargazing event at Mount Stromlo with Brad Tucker and myself. Delese Brewster from not only coordinated the event but also made dinner for the 50+ Science Teachers and Technicians on the mountain!
Such an honor to receive this award from Prime Minister Anthony Albanese! Thanks to all my past and current students for making my job so rewarding. I’m so proud of all you have achieved. I want to thank my wife Jennie Dodds for all her support over all the years. Xxx
Matt Dodds is recognised for his creative teaching methods. He’s equipping students from rural areas and diverse backgrounds with #STEM knowledge and skills.

A 3D printed AC induction motor. In the video and picture we only have 2 phases connected. Watch it spin faster. This is part of Jacob’s Depth Study into electromagnetism they build a teaching tool for Physics. #physics#physicsteacher@ASTA_online@sydney_physics@ausphysics
This is a sneak peak of Jaydah’s Yr.12 Physics project as part of her Build a Teaching Tool task. She made a Faraday Motor. Initially she used Salt Water as the conducting material, then swapped it out for Gallium which is more conductive @IOPTeaching@ausphysics@sydney_physics
PROJECT COMPLETE! 🎉🎊🥳 LEGO LIGO Version 4! This working model Michelson interferometer which can detect sub-millimetre vibrations will be used to teach students about the detection of Gravitational Waves by @ARC_OzGRav
Co-designed by myself @ScienceWithMat & @frankmadethis
How cool are these planets! One of my Yr.12 Physics students painted 🎨🖌️the styrofoam planet models that we were using in our 🌏 exoplanet 🪐activity. They look so good!
Glen Innes students Learning about Exoplanets and the Trappist 1 System as well as measuring the mass of the Sagittarius A* Black Hole at the core of the Milky Way Galaxy. The resources are from the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Canada 🇨🇦 . See the links below.

Student Activty 5 was great as a revision / extension activity on Keplers Laws. Pair it with this clip and it’s a slam dunk teaching activity.

Great to share my Hot Wheels Physics Lab with other teachers from around Australia in a free online Zoom. As you can see in the video, students launch the cars horizontally off the bench and do all the calculations to land the car in a cup. @stansw@ASTA_online@PhysicsANU
The @Perimeter Einstein Plus program for Physics Teachers was truly a like changing experience. If you teach physics I highly recommend you apply for this program and check out all the amazing resources on the Perimeter Institute website. Thanks again Perimeter!
Every year, PI’s Einstein Plus brings physics teachers together for a week of professional development.
Check out the highlights from Eplus 2024! Big thanks to Power Corporation of Canada for their support.

The Fighting Dragons of Ara. Hobbies are important and get us to focus on something that isn’t work and something we can calmly do in our own time.
@Celestron RASA 8”

Thanks for the shout out @baader_astro. Love your fast filter for my Celestron RASA.
I am looking forward to adding Sulphur data tonight to generate a SHO image.
Check out this amazing shot of The Fighting Dragons of Ara (NGC 6188) by from Glen Innes, NSW Australia. Proud to see our Baader Planetarium f/2 Highspeed filters with @celestron RASA 8” in action!

Collecting Muons with the Edumod Muon Detector from MDetect at 39’000 ft from Melbourne to Brisbane with @VirginAustralia. The rate count went from 3.1/s at ground level to 120/s at altitude. That is a 40x increase! @astroduff@Perimeter@Swinburne
LEGO LIGO! This is a working Lego Duplo interferometer complete with optical components from @EdmundOptics I got to present this at Ligo Hanford @LIGOWA@LIGO this week and I’m happy to report it will live in the control room! @ARC_OzGRav
Great to attend the session on Dark Matter with ✨ Jackie Bondell ✨ @jtkst10 from @ARC_DMPP. We learnt about how Australia is trying to detect Dark Matter with the Saber South experiment. We also learned about many different ways we can engage our students in activities about DM
A momentous day in the life of a Physics Teacher. Lunch with Michael landry the Observatory Head at @LIGOWA It was great to tour the insides & outsides of LIGO alongside the amazing Jackie Bondell @jtkst10 from @ARC_OzGRav & @ARC_DMPP. We drove the length of one of the 4km arms!
✨Einstein+ 2024✨ at the @Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in 🇨🇦 . This 1 week Teacher Program was truly amazing! Many thanks to the facilitators who made this week so enjoyable & a great learning experience. #Eplus2024 I look forward to sharing what I learnt.
