I just watched a video of Hilal’s father bidding him farewell. In his poignant speech, the father said that his son had already lost his mother, brother, and grandfather.

I'm grateful to commentators who mentioned the surge in Toronto ER visits could be related to COVID. I've seen an uptick in cases. But it's not that simple. I see the types of problems presenting. It's definitely not just COVID. Here are some possibilities: 👇👇👇

1) COVID - yes, sure. There's a small uptick in cases. I've been testing nonstop for 6 years and will continue to do so.

2) Catch up of summer problems. It could be some medical problems festering in the summer are finally coming to light. I'm seeing that. That abdominal pain that is cancer. That cough that is cancer. This is part of it. But at the same time, there was zero summer slow-down in ER. It's just more, more, more.

3) Referrals to ER. Family physicians and specialists are catching up on patient's medical problems and some are justifiably urgent or emergent, and appropriately, they are sent to ER. A minority are inappropriate referrals because we are only show open and cannot decline.

4) Lack of family medicine. A lot of patients don't have a family doctor. Some I treat do have a family doctor but can't get an urgent appointment.

But it's time to call a spade a spade. We are not set up to handle the sheer volume of cases coming.

Most Canadians would support full EU membership.

But this associate membership proposal is free trade, free movement in the EU and free access for Canadian businesses to sell to the EU.

Without EU regs, open borders for Canada or being bound by the EU commission.
