@TomCantonMedia I think COVID properly changed the landscape when it comes to wages.
Teams are willing to risk a big fee but are terrified of a big wage dragging them down without an escape route if it goes wrong.
Obviously not relevant to Saudi but relevant to why Saudi is the only option.
@warleyborough@timstillman_ You realise who the premier league are right? It’s all 20 clubs and requires 14 teams to vote for it.
And all clubs are limited by the same rules.
Don’t be dim
@timstillman_ Which has literally always happened. The only thing that has changed is the selling teams now have the financial security to hold out for bigger fees than they used to and have more to reinvest
@FrankSerpico10@themagic_tophat@_Tobolos_ I think he’s fairly reliable defensively yes (although I think he’s dropped at that) but completely unreliable going forward which is where our issues lie.
Simple for me - we need more goals and he provides little. Need to mix it up and take a punt.
@FrankSerpico10@themagic_tophat@_Tobolos_ I agree our system doesn’t get the best out of him - but the system won us the league and is therefore rightly not going to change anytime soon.
And I think the trialling at CF thing feels very Vermaelen at DM of an idea - a hell Mary when a player’s underperforming
@gunnerpunner@timstillman_ I think this trend actually more shows how much weight the top 6 put on premier league experience more than anything.
They’re willing to pay outrageous premiums just for that experience and likelihood of hitting the ground running
@BigBearKentlaar I stopped last year for the first time since 04! Do you think the game has got worse or we’ve got older and grown out of it?
Either way if they bring back zonal play I’m back in
@gunnerpunner I think people are still thinking of the Martinelli from 3 years ago.
Current Martinelli is basically a sprinter who works hard. And even that took a dive last season.
Whilst I agree there’s no guarantee of mega stars out there now, I think it’s pretty easy to improve on him.
@TomCantonMedia I’d be bitterly disappointed if Martinelli has a role that goes beyond Jesus’ last season.
Been pretty clear he hasn’t cut it for a while and last season I think it was quite obvious.
I’d be happy for us to push the boat out for Barcola
@LeGrove@clivepafc It’s a shame the majority of the premier league seem to hate us and no one wants to be our transfer buddy!
Jokes aside - I do think we really need to work on our inter league mingling. Some fruit baskets might be in order
@DarrenArsenal1@BigMesutOzil He’s also still held up and defended by many for being a rare moral voice in the sport which obviously contrasts so heavily with being the face of one of the most evil men the sport has ever seen that’s rapidly killing the sport.
It’s natural he’s held to a higher standard
@HarrySymeou Harry: If there’s only one choice on the table then he couldn’t have really chosen them over anybody else. Even if he may have done if given the choice.
