@jamal_braxton@TheMattWise I agree, but I’m also not in NFL circles. EDC and the ravens are going to go the non-exclusive route if other teams are not looking to trade more than 2 picks. I think his value is much greater, but I’m not a GM or an owner lol.
@TheMattWise I trust whatever it is they do- which might be ignorant but the organization knows the Lamar situation/trade market better than all of us. If they go non-exclusive I trust that they couldn’t get more than 2 1’s. Either way I don’t think he’s a raven, which stinks.
Several people around the league believe the Ravens have strongly considered using the non-exclusive franchise tag on Lamar Jackson
That and much more in our free agency/draft notebook from @DanGrazianoESPN and me. https://t.co/tztLGq3lTh
@skepticgoat I see what you mean. I do think that there are evaluators who see that he was limited in the Roman system. I can also see teams desperate for a solution at QB and owners desperate to sell tickets and merch giving away 3+ 1sts and paying that contract.
The #Ravens remain "hopeful" to get a contract done with Lamar Jackson before the tag deadline, yet I'm told a deal is still "not close" amidst the wait for a counter to the latest proposal.
Our @CBSSportsHQ latest update:
@Yinzer__412 We are all out here trying to get paid. I’d never turn down a job if another job where I did the exact same thing offered me more money. Why should he? Loyalty doesn’t pay the bills.
@Dclassics83@GarrettSprints Watson was an inferior player to Jackson and had legal issues- and yet still had a market. Yes the browns were the only willing team do guarantee, but I can’t see there not being multiple organizations in on Jackson. He’s a star, and a big ticket seller.
@deaner52@GarrettSprints I’m 100% against the non exclusive tag. We’ve never seen a player like Lamar hit the open market in a tag and trade scenario- QB needy teams are always more desperate than we think. Multiple teams would give up more than 2 1’s and give him that contract.
@ColeJacksonFB Ravens: no. Other teams: yes. We were shocked, sort of when Watson had a market with multiple suitors. It’s fair to speculate character/criminal cases as a reason why more than one team didn’t go fully guaranteed with Watson- I can see at least 2 doing going there for Lamar.
@ColeJacksonFB I think the ravens FO already has a gut feeling about all of this. I’m sure they know one way or another, and the resolution comes quickly in the form of Jackson being tagged/traded or extended. Every day I’m feeling like a trade is more likely.
@meNOTyourfriend@pdotsmurf @SpenceNice103 Exactly. I’m a huge LJ fan, and I totally get him looking at the Watson contract and wanting fully guaranteed $. I also can see the ravens not wanting to do that. I have no insider info but I feel like a trade is more likely than not, both sides seem to be too far apart.
@pdotsmurf @SpenceNice103 From an outsiders perspective, the agent is there to be the filter in negotiations. The team is going to try and get the best value by pointing out deficiencies in a players game- which can get personal quick. The agent can leave that part out, and just come to you w/numbers.
@ravens4dummies Everyone is saying Atlanta but I’m thinking Carolina. In the NFC, Deep pockets owner, desperate to grab a QB AND the rest of the team is built to win. They have draft capital is well. I also don’t recall thinking the browns were that desperate prior to them doing the deal.
