This afternoon, an officer observed a 51-year-old Lebanon man leaving Belk carrying a large backpack. The officer recognized the man from a previous shoplifting arrest and watched him get into a vehicle and drive away. After confirming the man’s driver’s license remained revoked, the officer conducted a traffic stop.

The investigation revealed the backpack contained nearly $500 worth of stolen clothing and cologne from an unreported shoplifting incident at Belk. As the investigation continued, another officer confirmed the same individual was also the suspect in a separate shoplifting case from JCPenney that was already under investigation.

The man was arrested and charged with driving on a revoked license and shoplifting-related offenses, with additional charges possible as the separate investigation continues.

Our officers remain committed to protecting local businesses and holding repeat offenders accountable. An officer’s proactivity led to the recovery of stolen merchandise and the identification of a suspect connected to multiple theft investigations.
