Further attention should be brought to the Appalachians immediately. Power is intermittent, cell service is scarce, and drinking water/food is running low. The situation in western North Carolina is absolutely dire today in the numbing aftermath of #Helene’s historic hydrological disaster. 75 fatalities have been confirmed overall, while another 1,000+ individuals are still missing (including 73 alone in Unicoi County, TN). This is a Hurricane that verified her worst case scenario through all three primary vectors of cyclonic destruction. Helene’s winds, storm surge, and inland rainfall ALL inflicted devastating-to-catastrophic decimation. The human and economic toll she’s exacted on the Big Bend coast and the southern Appalachian Mountains region is overwhelming. Collectively, we haven’t comprehended yet the absolute extent of infrastructure loss, livelihood impoverishment, and potential havoc surrounding the survivors at this very moment in #Asheville and nearby rural towns in NC. #ashevilleflooding

Could not be more excited to launch the Opportunity Youth Schools Project: https://t.co/F2LqG1SCsq
The experiences and expertise of practitioners working in communities at high performing Opportunity Youth schools should be central to creating, sharing & scaling new solutions.
I have been inspired by young people leading change in community from YouthBuild spaces across the globe most every day for the last 16 years. None have been more impressive, harder working or more likely to change the world for the good than my friend Ira

my brilliant and incredible nieces being recognized and celebrated in the Canadian House of Commons this week for their amazing advocacy work to cure ALS with @ALSTDI#EndALS - youth power for change and a cure with Clara and Ellie!!!
This summer, in Washington DC I met Clara (11) and Ellie (9), who persist in raising awareness about ALS disease. Today, the girls and their parents Mark and Rebecca Wetzel, were present in the House. We appreciate their dedicated involvement in a battle we should all embrace.

Students learned about career pathways and skills associated with construction and project management.
Thoughts from school leaders on managing impact on school schedule, instructional hour & attendance requirements if your city's teams make the Super Bowl, World Series, MLS Cup Final, & maybe NBA Finals in 1 school year? Obviously only a challenge for our schools here in Philly!!
TY @GovernorShapiro for prioritizing lived experiences & real skills over degree requirements. Talent is spread equally across PA. Opportunity is not. This helps close that gap. https://t.co/d5tHWsWy7V @YouthBuildPHL & @YBPACoalition are ready to extend approach w/ more employers
