Draft a Premier League XI from random clubs and seasons. Build your team. Simulate the season.
Can you go 38-0?

@jgero1@antonjbenson@ScoutTom_ Better and surpassed can be one and the same, accept the reality that we’ve been fighting relegation and other teams have progressed in that time, you don’t need squad value to see that. We need to rebuild, and in the right way
No stadium can change the fact we’ve fallen behind.
@jgero1@antonjbenson@ScoutTom_ I agree that it’s unquantifiable, but I don’t agree that bringing in an ageing player on big wages for a sizeable fee will all of a sudden transform how players see us.
George actually represents an objectively better deal at 20m, but I know full well that’ll blow your mind too.
@jgero1@antonjbenson@ScoutTom_ You’re missing the point.
What’s the logic for Brighton not being better than us right now? Finished above us for four years straight, got Europe twice, made a semi final (we haven’t). In that time they’ve sold White, Cucurella, Mac Allister, Caicedo, Trossard, Sanchez, Bissouma
@jgero1@antonjbenson@ScoutTom_ Squad value is the 14th lowest in the PL. Again, backing Tom’s original point of building value in a squad rather than individuals.
We haven’t played in Europe for years, we haven’t had a meaningful cup run in years, all while chasing glory signings. We need to break the wheel.
@jgero1@antonjbenson@ScoutTom_ As it stands, yes. We can debate all we like that we’re a bigger club (which we are), but right now they have surpassed us.
Better manager recruitment, better squads, better player recruitment, aligned board, sticking to a philosophy. If you look at it objectively, they have.
@jgero1@antonjbenson@ScoutTom_ To an extent. Appeal comes from seeing the club moving in the right direction, and I don’t think one signing does that.
Need to appeal to young players, show them we have a good pathway with a view to an elite move. Thats why Brighton/Brentford/Bournemouth have surpassed us.
@jgero1@antonjbenson@ScoutTom_ Short signed decisions are what get you into trouble. Signing Grealish is an example, for the right price it’s great, for like 25m you will get 1 year maybe of a good player before he declines. If you don’t get Europe in that one year, it’s objectively poor business.
@jgero1@antonjbenson@ScoutTom_ I think it’s less about looking to sell them, but always being open to the ‘right’ time to sell them. Maximise profit, use that money to improve the squad as a whole, signing players who will be worth just as much in a year or two and will help us for the long-term. 1/2
@antonjbenson@jgero1@ScoutTom_ Because it’s a model that works. Not saying every decision we make should be based that way, but the reality is those are more appealing clubs now because of the way they are operated. We’ve tried going for the glory signings, and it sent us backward.
@Everton__1234 Wasn’t a suggestion that would be an issue, more a comparison! In the end Onyekuru represented good business, just crazy to think what could have been in another universe.
Other smart business like that would be positive in my books, Branthwaite’s large initial fee an example.
@ScoutTom_ Agreed. Always thought DoF model would eventually bear fruit in that regard, but both Brands and Thelwell were hamstrung but both ownership and managers.
Worried new structure will lack any power to look at the bigger picture - and actually create a five year plan.
@elpivoteftbl@Benjwinst Agree with last sentence, but after that, it’s also about pulling the trigger and not having the manager dictate otherwise.
So many examples over the years of players we correctly identified, but never pursued or committed to signing. Though DoF would rectify this, but alas.
@Sean_Lunt Understand your point and agree, one big downside is recruitment. Struggled last year to sign top targets, will struggle even more this year as up against Bournemouth, Sunderland & Brighton. All for same calibre of player. Europe is next step to unlocking our recruitment.
@Benjwinst@Sean_Lunt Only positive is that it’s over. An embarrassing way to finish a season that will go down as our biggest chance to progress in probably the next five years at least.
@OpinionHated6@Benjwinst@FatWeightlifter Jumping in, I’ve seen quite a few people referring to ‘same old’ in terms of RB. TFG have only had one summer window, failings to find a RB for 10 years cannot all be pinned on them.
Would have liked one in summer, was always going to miss one position with scale of rebuild.
