@acaseofthegolf1@driveftf I have three young kids, ages 7, 5, and 4, who are picking up the game and would be very grateful to attend with my wife and me. We love to road trip and would make the drive from Nashville, TN to attend (and will be sure to share pictures along the way).
@krcraycraft@Scepter_Pub Sounds like a great book! I look forward to reading it upon its release. Keep up the inspiring work, I really enjoy your writing.
@DawnofMercy @Catholic_IR It was a great presentation and wonderful opportunity to connect with fellows in recovery. The Catholic in Recovery community thanks you for making it happen!
The world is in crisis.
"Middle-aged adults ages 35 to 50 are using marijuana and hallucinogens at record levels. Binge drinking spiked to the 'highest prevalence ... ever recorded for this age group.'"
It doesn't have to be this way.

My dad never really came to many of my games. He took me fishing probably twice. I don’t think I ever played catch with him. He was one of the most flawed people I ever knew….
But that’s what made him great.
His parents had a nasty divorce in high school. As a result, he developed alcoholism and eventually a serious drug addiction. My mom told me that at the height of his drug addiction he wouldn’t come home for 3 days straight. At the time she was pregnant with their 4th child. She filed for divorce when she realized she was never going to get him to change.
Our culture tells us to “live our truth” and to “practice self love” — you can find dozens of stories of moms and dads destroying their families to pursue careers, different partners, new sexual lifestyles, and even new genders. We encourage selfishness and narcissism as virtuous.
What made my dad great were the immense flaws that he was willing to work to overcome for his wife and eventual 10 children. Good Dad’s do two things: play with their kids and sacrifice — which are central to how we show love.
My dad WAS a piece of shit. But people can change. He worked really hard to change. He got clean and sober and changed for my mom and his additional 6 kids they had after she originally filed for divorce. This year, the Schillings hit either their 22nd or 23rd grand kid. And only half of us are married. His greatness was his love for all of us and his willingness to sacrifice his own selfish desires for the betterment of other people.
His conversion was so authentic that most people that have known him over the last 20-odd years are shocked to find out that he was a serious drug addict. That’s the power of God has when you give up your will for HIS own.
My dad should have died alone in a ditch from an overdose. Instead, he turned things around and died at 57 with all 10 of his kids and his wife by his side praying for him and thanking God out loud for him. He managed to switch the saddest death to the closest thing to a happy death you could hope for.
To all the piece of shit dads out there, just know that you can change. You can pass on a love for your family that gets passed on for generations.
"Sobriety has certainly made it a lot easier for me to be more motivated."
After taking a break from golf in 2019, @Chris_Kirk_'s road to recovery from alcohol abuse has led him to the winner's circle once again.
Had an awesome conversation with @FatherDaveDwyer on the @BustedHalo show tonight. I appreciate the depth and real-life discussion we had about addictions, compulsions, and unhealthy attachments. Thanks for the opportunity!
Tonight on the Busted Halo Show, @FatherDaveDwyer spoke with @Scott_Weeman about his new book, “The Catholic in Recovery Workbook”, which is the first step-by-step guide for working through the Twelve Steps of recovery from a #Catholic perspective. @avemariapress
@LindsaySchlegel@OSV Awesome, congratulations! I look forward to reading. Keaton and I Thirst are doing wonderful things to bring hope around the topic of addiction in the Church.
@ChristInOurNei1 I’m so sorry to hear about your family’s loss, Bishop John. This is very sad. We’ll be praying for Mary and her children. God bless you and all families impacted by suicide, especially in moments of doubt or darkness.
