"Can handwriting on an iPad using a stylus transfer to pen and paper?"

This is one of the most asked questions we get from parents.

Today, during a feedback call with parents from @gtschool, they shared their kid's progress on paper:
Left: Print handwriting
Right: Cursive Writing after 3 sessions (10–15 min each) using @ScribbleDotApp .

The parent ended the call with this: "This is the first time I’ve really had hope we can get my kid's handwriting where it needs to be." 💙

We don’t learn letters just by looking at them. We learn letters by producing them.

A 2012 study (James & Engelhardt) had pre-reading 5-year-olds reproduce letters three ways: writing by hand, typing, and tracing.

Then they scanned the kids’ brains while showing them the letters.

The brain’s “reading circuit��� was recruited in the kids who had written the letters by hand—with no comparable effect after typing or tracing.

Producing a letter by hand helps build the brain’s letter-recognition system.

AI made text generation free and writing by hand valuable.
The internet made distribution free and attention valuable.

Whenever scarcity inverts, value shifts.

Blaise Pascal quipped: "I would have written a shorter letter, but I did not have the time."

His point? Concision is expensive.
My point? Brevity requires thinking. And thinking is the product of writing.

Writing is effortful, embodied, and generative.
Ask AI to write for you, and you get the artifact without the transformation. The product without the process.

Handwriting is proof of human thought and will be one of the most valuable skills of the AI era.
The repricing of the skill has already begun.

Universities are requiring students to handwrite their finals. Berkeley's blue book sales are up 80%.
24 states have re-mandated cursive. California's bill passed 79-0, and nothing passes in California 79-0.
Pinterest proclaimed "DMs, you're dust" and named letter writing a top trend of 2026.
Social media peaked in 2022 with Gen Z leading the decline.

Why is this happening?

Because typed words stopped being proof of effort.
Nobody frames a typed letter, and nobody trusts a typed essay.

The next generation won't be paid to produce text.
They'll be paid for having something insightful to say, and the clarity to say it.

Writing is the single act that builds both.

That's the bet we're making with Scribble.
