White-bellied Storm Petrel (F. g. leucogaster)←→Black-bellied Storm Petrel (F. t. melanoleuca)
I was happy when I picked up a leucogaster among many melanoleuca with my binos! I also love the last pic because it's far but we see the distinctive features. #AtlanticOdyssey2024
Latest update on the Madeira Wildfires, another night and the fire gets closer. It’s now northwest of nesting ground. We believe that Zino’s Petrels are affected by smoke and fire. Although the fire has not reached the know nests yet it is moving north and could rotate east.
Black-footed Albatross (blue B364)
This bird was ringed on 7th May 2029 in Ogasawara, Japan when he was chick according to Yamashina Institute for Ornithology. You can see outer primaries molt(p9 growing, p7? dropping?) .
Yamashina Institute for Ornithology needs financial supporters to continue their research and study for Short-tailed Albatross.

We went to the sea looking for Storm Petrels today but not many… We only saw Wilson’s Storm Petrel, it’s not a very happy day🥲 This pic shows Hidejima where Band-rumped Storm Petrel breeding.
Not long to @GlobalBirdfair & I've got some brand new work to display: original oil work, illustration plates and prints. Just getting everything framed now and fiddling about....
We got back from the sea! We could visit two breeding sites of Streaked Shearwater, it was quite rough sea conditions though. This is one of them, named Kaminone-jima. Very beautiful place. A lot of Streaked Shearwaters were flying around the island in the late afternoon☺️
Oceania Seabirds will now be held from 13-16 May 2025 in Noumea, New Caledonia. This inaugural Symposium will bring the attention of the international and Oceania community to the importance of seabirds within the world’s largest body of water. https://t.co/DyvJxL6yuu
We are staying on this boat for two nights. Hopefully we will be able to get good enough photos for studying Streaked Shearwater around Amami and southern Tokara Is.
