In the past 36 hours two people have been hit and killed by trucks in Montreal and yet still everyday I sit here and read comments from people who believe we need faster streets and fewer traffic calming measures
Triste précédent. Une société laïque ne devrait pas impliquer la négation des citoyens religieux. Les institutions démocratiques sont là pour tous les membres de la société, incluant ceux qui sont croyants.
Enough of the consultations already. We’ve been talking about this for over a decade. It’s a no-brainer. Corner stores and small scale businesses in neighbourhoods are foundational to walkable cities.
As we add density everywhere, we need more destinations within walking distance of home. This is a small but important step towards this goal.
I don’t understand why we keep asking the question over and over instead of just doing it.
Re: "walkable cities" and "15 minute cities", there's a quote I saw some time back that said something like "if you live in a 15 minute city, but your batista can't afford to live closer than 30 minutes away, you don't have a city, you have an amusement park."

It's weird. Critics keep railing against bike infrastructure, cause apparently it's winter in southern Ontario six months of the year, and then we build transit shelters that leave people completely exposed to cold and wind. 🤨

Montreal’s massive snow removal operations never cease to amaze. The city is cold, snowy, and dense enough that just plowing snow to the side of the road isn’t enough. After larger snowfalls, they collect it all with big snow blowers and truck it away to snow dumps!
On its third day of service between Montreal and the South Shore, the REM was hit by service outages in both directions. This is the third outage in three days.

"Montreal is important not because it is unique, but because it proves that—in North America, in the middle of a largely car-oriented, suburban country—a vibrant, pleasant, safe and truly urban big city can thrive."

"Again, I am not against bike lanes. I think bike lanes are a good thing and I think they’re a healthy thing. I’m against how it’s being done, how it’s affecting businesses, how it’s affecting the congestion," Saunders said.
