For NFL comeback player of the year, Trey Hendrickson (+5000) is a very small anti-quarterback play that I've made against the trio of Patrick Mahomes, Jayden Daniels and Kyler Murray in the event that the award slips away from that stereotypical narrative.

Last season, the Baltimore Ravens gave up 354.5 yards against per game (24th), 247.9 passing yards per game (31st), 23.4 points against per game (18th) while recording a measely 30 sacks (28th). While injuries to Lamar Jackson derailed their season, their disappointing 8-9 season was also largely due to their front seven simply not performing and leaving their secondary overleveraged and exposed. Now, not only do they have the 5th easiest strength of schedule to get back on track but also one of the most productive pass rushers in the entire league coming off an injury riddled season where he played only 7 games while recording 16 total tackles, 4 sacks and a forced fumble.

Previous to his core injury shortened season, Hendrickson had recorded two straight seasons of 17.5 sacks for the Cincinnati Bengals as the lone star on the defense propping up a weak secondary and much left to be desired group from an overall talent perspective. In those two seasons, Hendrickson finished in the top ten in pass rush win rate in both '23 (21%, 10th) and '24 (20%, 10th) despite playing for one of the worst defenses in the entire NFL that allowed the Bengals to play with the lead in only 37.3% in '23 (20th) and 41.4% in '24 (14th). Hendrickson now joins a team with a bright defensive minded head coach in Jesse Minter along with more talent than he's ever been surrounded by and a good secondary which should play up his presence. Jackson, Derrick Henry and the offense should take advantage of that weaker schedule to provide Hendrickson with more clear passing down situations for opposition which could play as a catalyst for Hendrickson once again racking up near league leading sack totals which in combination with a possible jump into a top five to seven defense could be enough to garner him consideration for this award with a palatable narrative tied to a team rebounding due to his presence on the defensive side of the ball.
