@jewndahalfmen Glad to hear that
Yes there is - a lot tied up with our pointless president
They’re appointed by select group - university graduates - so usually very far left
They’ve no power but still very vocal, trying to feel important
@paddyjogorman Great piece
Paddy note that there’s a minimum % of govt ad spend that has to be in Irish
It’s state mandated waste!
Not to mention there’s already an Irish language channel, yet they put the ads on RTE…
@akhivae They all work - mostly in tech or laptop jobs
Most very recent arrivals, usually on good incomes. Usually a couple with 1-2 kids.
They buy houses in new estates, usually middle class ones in Dublin
They speak good English - ideal immigrants imho
@sc_cath Behavioural Econ is far softer than the rest of economics.
Post-07 there was demand for an alternative to mainstream econ.
Ariely, Gino, Kahneman etc supplied this demand
It was always obviously wrong to any real economist
@michael_c_grant@JohnHolbein1 Did you have any more contemporaneous writing on this?
Someone should write a book on how economics profession lost its way post-07, overtaken by a loss of confidence (‘new economics’ and behavioural) then fraud, mostly to justify lefty policies
@razibkhan@adambeneden@danariely It’s not a real field, it’s mostly fraud
The sad part is how many students spent time studying, when they could have studied something useful (macro,io,micro)
@JerusalemDemsas His work on institutions was sloppy - ignored India/China, and how institutions arose
Why Nations Fail was popular with lefty media was that it deemphasised culture
He recanted much of it - he now emphasises culture (see The Narrow Corridor and his pod with Alice Evans)
@ondakondratiev@Fullantho He stole the idea that a hybrid German-Roman culture lead to European political institutions and development
He never cites anyone for it
@RichardHanania That’s pretty ahistorical!
Affluenza affected American elites long before the republican establishment lost to TP/MAGA
Lefty’s gained huge clout post-08
