This month, I'm especially proud of my family's immigration story from Ireland to chase the American Dream.
Happy Irish American Heritage Month to the more than two million Californians who can trace their roots back to the Emerald Isle.
San Quentin, once California's most notorious prison, is now a national model for rehabilitation and second chances.
And with innovative programs reducing violent crime in the Golden State, the California Model is proving that public safety and rehabilitation go hand-in-hand.
On Friday, CDCR and @CAgovernor announced the completion of the 80,000-square-foot San Quentin Learning Center at San Quentin Rehabilitation Center. The innovative complex nearly triples classroom space, expands rehabilitative programming, and features a one-stop reentry hub.
And moving forward the Senate will now have an Emergency Management Committee (which the Assembly has had)
Henry Stern will Chair the new committee, Vice Chair is Republican Kelly Seyarto.
When they emigrated from the Irish counties of Cork, Sligo, and Dublin, my family sought the American Dream in the Golden State.
That story began with my great, great grandfather taking a job as a beat cop in San Francisco.
In moments of crisis, leadership matters. Thank you @CASpeakerRivas for centering the voices of our most impacted communities by the wildfires. From meeting with our fire fighters and first responders to listening to local leaders and residents in Altadena, Pasadena, Glendale, & Los Angeles, I am confident a united Assembly will be swift, inclusive, and effective in our response so we can rebuild and recover together. Tune in today at 10am for our press conference.

Saddened to hear of @EllenCorbettCA passing. She was an amazing leader in the #Legislature, as she always took time to hear all sides and thoughts … her kindness was always genuine.
She was also a great #IrishAmerican embodying the best in us and will be missed. #CALeg
Ellen Corbett made history when she bucked the speaker as Assembly Judiciary Committee Chair to pass the marriage equality bill in 2004 when I was @eqca's lobbyist. I'll never forget her for that and her many kindnesses to me. My thoughts are with her son and family. May her memory always be a blessing. She was truly one of a kind.
Deeply saddened to hear of Sen. Corbett’s passing.
She was a fixture in the Legislature and a tireless advocate for the East Bay.
As the second woman in history to serve as Majority Leader, she inspired generations of future leaders.
Her legacy will never be forgotten.
Folks, I might not walk as easily or talk as smoothly as I used to.
I might not debate as well as I used to.
But what I do know is how to tell the truth.
