Want to stop a food crisis? Here's the short list of actions needed c/o @JennClapp : 1) cancel debt for food import-dependent countries; 2) crack down on excessive commodity speculation; 3) enhance transparency & reduce concentration in markets; .. (1/2)

New @UNNCD #GlobalLandOutlook published today. It find 40% of all land is degraded, primarily due to food production - Agriculture must move from being main cause of degradation to principal catalyst for land and soil restoration. More @WWF reaction here https://t.co/BnTigKe4nX

A shift to diets that emphasize plant-based foods such as beans, nuts, fruits, and vegetables could result in a “substantial reduction” in greenhouse gas emissions while also reducing the toll of non-communicable diseases.
Overall, Africa’s performance on food system transformation has declined since the last Biennial Review. Given ongoing challenges, what can be done to reverse this? @AUC_CAADP@NEPAD_CAADP
3rd #CAADP Biennial Review is out (https://t.co/opO3MLDHma). Makes for sobering reading. Despite progress in the face of major food system shocks, Africa is not-on-track to meet the goals and targets of the Malabo Declaration by 2025 @carin_smaller @7Mukazi@paulinabizz@F_Rampa
Only 1 African country is on-track towards achieving the Malabo Declaration Commitments by 2025 (Rwanda). Only 4 countries are spending 10% of their budgets on agriculture (Burundi, DRC, Ethiopia, Mali), and only Kenya is on track to end hunger by 2025.
