Want to know more about how gun stores fuel cartel violence in Mexico, fentanyl addiction in the US, and migrations to the border but don't have the time for a 12,000+ word investigation? Here's the TL;DR version w/ @ConversationUS

Fundamental physics has long strongly suggested that time is not a basic property of the universe. It is a local emergent byproduct of quantum interaction.
We still need more experimental proof for the math though, and it's starting to come in.

“Platner will survive this — not because voters are thrilled he was sexting other women, but because they already assume half of Congress is doing the same, or worse.
“And it’s not as if I’m some Platner booster. He’s always struck me as an impulsive dumbass (not unlike me I suppose, except I would never run for Congress). But I'll take a dumbass over Susan Collins, a three-decade incumbent who has rubber-stamped every war she's ever met and just about every major Washington disaster since I was in elementary school.
“Consider how she answered Platner's remark that she'd voted to send him to Iraq. She said ‘that was Platner’s decision to serve. He was not drafted.’
“That's the kind of casual cruelty that falls out of these decorum-humpers the moment an election forces them to face an actual human being. And here's the thing about everyman dumbasses like Platner: they don't talk like that. That line is pure thirty-year operator — the reflex of someone who's spent a career treating war as a line item and the people fighting them as a footnote. These people hold you in contempt and are indecent straight through. They just know which side of the plate the salad fork goes on.“
On May 4, The Washington Post won two Pulitzers. To stream the announcement live, the paper had to bring back two of the video operators it had laid off in February. Nobody left in the building could run the equipment. They walked past the new opinion studio on their way in.
The new opinion studio was built with $80,000 in video gear. Its flagship podcast has 515 YouTube subscribers after 186 videos and more than 20 episodes. Apple Podcasts users have given it 2.3 stars. The most positive review on record: "This is bad and the people making it should feel bad."
Dave Jorgenson, the journalist who built WaPo's TikTok presence, left last year. His personal YouTube channel now has 358,000 subscribers. The opinion podcast has 515. A former WaPo journalist working with a small team has built more than 600 times the audience of the flagship new show.
Bezos was warned by his own opinion editor that the rightward pivot would cost subscribers. His documented response, per the New York Times: "I don't care."
The piece's own summary is the only sentence needed: "Bezos laid off the people who win the Pulitzers. He's funding the people who lose the subscribers."
As a data journalist, it felt like a landmark in my career when I published my first story with FiveThirtyEight. There is no way for Disney to spin its erasure as being civically justifiable.
Wrote about my 10 years at Disney. Mostly focused on their mismanagement of the FiveThirtyEight brand with more detail than I've spoken about publicly before. Not gonna lie, this felt kind of cathartic.

A Georgia couple who terrorized a Black family at a child’s birthday party with Confederate flags, racial slurs, guns, and death threats were sentenced for a hate crime. Joe Torres got 20 years; Kyla Norton got 15..😳🚨
Once again, I feel that people assume rich people are paying a lot of money to dress like hamburgers for a night. In reality, fashion houses buy tickets and allocate them to celebrities, who they dress to show off how they can make hamburger shaped outfits.

This paper attributes declines in teen pregnancy to the arrival of the smartphone. Its first line is, “Teen fertility collapsed almost everywhere in the world starting around 2007.” This is a chart of U.S. teen pregnancy going back to 1991. More slight acceleration than collapse.
Charts like this look really impressive, until we examine the data source showing the trend, which is a guy who has made a living extolling a thought process that demonizes modern liberal ideology.
What’s impressive about this is that the education system didn’t just eliminate virtually all conservative thought as it moved toward left wing extremism, they got rid of almost anyone who was in the middle too. Anyone who doesn’t fully comply with the groupthink isn’t welcome.
Ashley St. Clair was so deep in the right wing media apparatus that she had a baby by Elon, but since they threw her under the bus she’s been spilling all their secrets and it’s very entertaining
I've seen a lot of takes that Orbán's defeat means that he was never an authoritarian in the first place.
This is completely wrong — and, in fact, betrays a complete misunderstanding of both Hungarian politics and modern authoritarianism.
Here's why.
The drop in standards is a complex story, but the group that is almost never to blame is the students themselves. They had this done *to them*.
I am not dunking, but I am concerned, because this cohort also doesn't seem very happy.
A fascinating, crazy, and very 2026 story: The Texas plastic surgeon who is patient zero for the Charlie Kirk assassination conspiracy theories https://t.co/ZWk6IgfLhl
otherwise good report but donie, i'm very dissapointed you did not do more due diligence on any claims she made about net profits and let it air like it's fact.
it's been proven the faked dashboard screen recordings showing that showed her making 100m annually.
no doubt she's a millionaire but she's incentivized to use media to further her lies about her income because she's connected to OF agencies who try to recruit women into becoming OF creators.
having an insane lie like pretending to have 9 figures in net profits air on cnn lets the agency she's associated use her fake revenue numbers reported on by cnn as social proof to try to recruit girls who'd hope to make as much money as her.
