On this day, June 5, in 1998, the Truman Show was released and introduced the world to the fictional town of ‘Seahaven.’ Filmed in Seaside, Florida, the Truman Show turned this quaint community into a popular tourist destination. Seaside was the brainchild of Robert Davis and is considered one of America’s first master‑planned communities and a model for New Urbanism. Today, the region continues to thrive while balancing popularity with its now historic charm.
You can visit this silver-screen town as one of the stops on our Florida America250 Road Trip! For location details, visit https://t.co/ql4ZxyXZik

Le Plessis-Robinson has an absolutely amazing mayor; its transformation was the result of his vision, and he persisted for decades.

Healthy community does not happen automatically; it cannot be forced. But when we pay attention to social infrastructure, we can create places where relationships can deepen.

We can build social housing both beautifully and less expensively. It is a huge difference between what we do now and what France once built for social housing.

Eric Klinenberg, I’d make the case that porches, balconies, and galleries, if properly designed, can be some of the most effective social infrastructure, drawing people just a few feet outside the walls of their houses, where they can get in conversations with others. #CNU34
