@DavidJohnButler Wuthering Heights was pretty disappointed. I really loved it while I was reading, but the more time that passes the more I inexplicably hate it.

P&P was ironically the exact opposite. Lowkey wanted to DNF for like 66%, but then the last third turned it into a near 5/5 somehow 😂

@camhigby Regardless of the constitutionality problem, you are at best forgetting if not purposely ignoring the real problem: allowing people to have access to this kind of tech and subsequent data is begging to be abused by authorities who hate you.

The thing many people forget to do is to assume that any burgeoning public technology CAN & WILL be used against them. What good the tech *can* do will always eventually be nullified by bad people who come to control it; they ALWAYS forgo the good cuz it won’t fit the narrative.

@gavinmallott @jackunheard The point is: don’t do the whole sharp drop to try to break the neck. Just rope her and tighten enough to close the airway. Once she’s passed out put loosen it and wait till she revives.

There’s a period of time after passing out from lack of oxygen before actually dying.

Let her experience firsthand what she did to her children, as well her own personal punishment for inflicting it. No sympathy for evil.

@thatchapfella If we two were literally exactly the same in every act and belief for the entirety of our lives with ONE SINGLE difference being whether we interpreted this as the Trinity vs LDS Godhead, I do not believe that only one of us would go to heaven (or hell). God’s jealous, not petty.

One of the reasons that I started this whole journey of reading the Book of Mormon is because I am a systems theorist.

I am genuinely interested in various systems of belief.

I feel that there is a lot that even I as a devout Catholic can learn from studying and trying to genuinely understand other people's belief systems.

It's amazing how much you can learn about someone by what the fruits of their beliefs are.

If Lindsay Clancy is found innocent because hormones made her emotionally unstable, women better be very careful celebrating that verdict.

Because the law loves PRECEDENT.

From that day forward, every job application is going to have a new question:

“Are you currently hormonal?”

“Well, I’m a woman.”

“Thank you. I think we’ll be going in another direction.”

You can’t carry a weapon anymore. No female police officers. Sorry, but we cannot hand a loaded gun to somebody whose legal defense might eventually be, “My hormones were acting up.”

No more high-stress jobs, either. No air-traffic controllers. No surgeons. No nuclear-launch codes. One bad hot flash and boom 💥 Canada is glowing.

And women definitely can’t be judges. How can you decide whether somebody else is emotionally stable when your own gender just established in court that hormones can make you kill three people?

No female politicians, either. You can’t be trusted to run the country if, according to your own argument, your endocrine system occasionally takes over the government.

And custody hearings are going to change overnight.

The judge will say, “Ordinarily, children belong with their mother. However, according to the Lindsay Clancy precedent, she may be only one hormone away from a Netflix documentary. The children go with Dad.”

Dad doesn’t know their shoe sizes, the pediatrician’s name or which one is allergic to peanuts, but his testosterone has never been successfully used as an insanity defense.

Feminists spent a hundred years saying women are not hysterical, irrational creatures controlled by their biology and one defense attorney walks into court and says, “Ladies and gentlemen of the jury… have you considered the uterus?”

You cannot demand equal authority and then ask for discounted accountability.

If women want equal rights, great. But equal rights come with equal wrongs.
Otherwise, that glass ceiling is about to become a padded ceiling.

Does that suddenly mean nothing in the books of Genesis-1 Kings or so (and other recountings) doesn’t matter?

Like, this is basic critical thinking people should have learned by high school, but apparently it’s incomprehensible.

Liking Trevor’s work means witnessing an extraordinary amount of people who are somehow utterly incapable of intellectualizing that historical fact and moral/spiritual truth are in fact 2 different categories of truth. Neither precludes the other. Neither requires the other. 🫤

I really don't care whether the Book of Mormon is "true" in the historical sense. I care about its fruits.

This was the very same question that brought me out of atheism and back to Catholicism.

@Mark__Lawrence A tiny bit. Depends very much on how rude and/or obnoxious they are about it, but it’s VERY arbitrary/inconsistent tbh. (e.g. I have no problem reading Stephen King or Larry Correia, both of whom are not shy about their views on completely opposite sides of the spectrum.)

I woke up to a lot of fighting and contention between followers of Jesus Christ.

I’ve seen Catholics ripping on Protestants, Protestants ripping on Latter-day Saints, and even Latter-day Saints ripping on Catholics.

This is not what Christ wanted for us.

This is not who we should be.

We may have real and important theological differences, but we should be building one another up and proclaiming the Gospel to all who have ears to hear—not tearing one another down.

Stop attacking each other’s faith and start proclaiming the Gospel.

“I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.” — John 13:34

@nicoraytruth They essentially are a creed…

…but formed in the Latter Days by the people who formed the Church; they’re meant to define belief system, not enforce it.

The problem of the other creeds isn’t that they’re creeds tho, but that we see them as not deriving from “valid” authority.
