If you’re bad at marketing still do it.
If you're bad at sales still do it.
If you're bad at product still do it.
If you're bad at storytelling still do it.
If you're bad at branding still do it.
Everyone isn’t great at first.
Experience is how you become great.
There's an interesting form of luck that affects startups. You start a successful startup, then a few years into it some new innovation appears and you're uniquely poised to benefit from it. Smartphones did this for Facebook. AI seems to be doing it for Replit.

@PaulYacoubian This is also why government funded startup programs also fail to create functional scale based startups
Waterfall design of startup innovation....
heard something like this 3 times this week:
"our recent grads are now much more productive than people who have worked here for years because they've really learned how to use ChatGPT".
The next AI Tinkerers Seattle Meetup is May 11th sponsored by Ai2 Incubator: "On the Road to AGI with Agent Systems" featuring @yoheinakajima and community demos - RSPV here: https://t.co/tyvqqKY730
@agazdecki We have seen this happen dozens of times at @StartupWeekend . At some , @sechrest has helped 30% get to revenue in the weekend.
Some have even gone on to get funded by @Seattle_Angel
This is worth the practice. Low downside, high upside.
You can launch a startup in a weekend.
Create a landing page.
Write the problem you’re solving clearly.
To a really specific customer.
Reach out to people for calls.
Try to get some precommitted sales.
Validate your product before building.
Not easy but not impossible.
Build an audience before a startup.
You’ll have an “unfair” distribution model ready to go which increases your startups chances of success.
How?
- Create a podcast
- Post on social
- Write a blog
- Make YouTube videos
- Be yourself
- Be consistent
It ain’t rocket science.
When your startup speaks to everyone you end up speaking to no one.
When your startup tries to solve everyone’s problems you solve none.
Be specific about who you serve and solve one problem really well.
Excited to do a deep dive on building with GPT-3 with the @pixelbeastsnft community!
I'll def be showing off some @Zapier x @OpenAI builds, which I guess makes this a #nocode x #ai x #web3 event - finally combining my 3 recent deep dives from the last 3 years.
