More than a third of Post-Gazette newsroom workers are expected to lose their jobs Monday as new nonprofit owners take over, according to the Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh. Story via @ChrissySuttles https://t.co/QEm8w98U7h
I was told Thursday that I will not be retained by the new ownership of the @PittsburghPG. It's been a true honor, to have shared a newsroom with so many talented journalists. It was a career goal to make it to the #PostGazette and I'm glad I got to do it while both of my parents were still alive. I stood on Steelers sidelines, I photographed a now infamous day in Butler County and had any number of memorable moments. But most of all I'll remember the people. The colleagues I stood in the rain with for breaking news, the community members who appreciated having their stories told. There's still a lot of talented people inside those walls. I'm excited for them, and look forward to seeing what they do. As for me, I'll be fine. I'll figure it out. I always do. It's the reality of the business I chose. I wouldn't trade it for anything. In the words of the immortal Hunter S. Thompson, "Buy the ticket, take the ride."
Yesterday was a big win for journalism in Western Pennsylvania. The doors of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette are staying open.

Tremendously proud of and inspired by the resolve, creativity and dedication to the craft our sports staff at the @PittsburghPG continues to show during uneasy, uncertain times.
Look at my timeline from the past few days. Unique reporting and storytelling at its finest.
Tick . . . tick . . . tick . . .
Meanwhile, signs of hope as the community begins to rally around saving its local newspaper, including:
• A group of investors and business leaders, led by Kevin Acklin of Stevens & Lee, reaching out to @PittsburghPG ownership to explore converting the newspaper into a nonprofit. https://t.co/hxOscqHWLw
• A panel of editors convening next Thursday to discuss how to respond to the impending closure of the Post-Gazette, brought together by Pittsburgh Tomorrow. Details on how to attend: https://t.co/W11G8Eo9lR
• Post-Gazette reporters speaking openly and directly to the public, online and otherwise, about what it will take to make journalism sustainable in Pittsburgh. https://t.co/8RDQDAVubl
Fingers crossed.
When the @PittsburghPG announced it was closing its doors, it was a big blow to us as employees, but also to the greater Pittsburgh area.
I took to @WPXIFinalWord that week to put it out to the public that we aren't giving up on our news outlet, and we hope you don't either:
A group of Pittsburgh Post-Gazette employees is calling for new elections for the paper’s union, saying they’ve been misrepresented for years
The group, which says they’re in the majority, wants to see the PG continue to operate, & union negotiations must be realistic. @KDKA
