@dustyj Always interesting when people critique a story they clearly didn’t read closely. Tammy’s quote wasn’t even a key one. And the piece wasn’t about picking “great campaigns,” it was about what’s actually happening in the market.
@jason_kint The DOJ remedies are undeniably important - no argument there. But calling the EU angle irrelevant is a reach. Even as a private suit, it signals where publisher pressure is heading and shows this isn’t just a US story. The industry isn’t operating in a vacuum, and
neither is Google.
Also, appreciate the “tip,” though not every piece is built to cover every angle. Most readers can follow more than one development at a time.
@jason_kint Appreciate the perspective. Could I have focused more on the search remedy? Sure—and in hindsight, that may have added useful context. But it was an editorial decision to focus on what’s happening in the EU at this stage, especially given how the global implications
are starting to shape up differently. That said, if we’re going to publicly critique how stories are framed, I’d hope for a bit more consistency. It’s hard not to notice that some reporters get called out while others - sometimes covering similar ground - don’t, based on messages
@happensinadops …. actually going on curated deals. If you have any other issues about our coverage in future feel free to drop me a line after you vent on social. Thanks
@happensinadops Thanks for reading both articles. And also well done on the cute image - hope you got the engagement you wanted. We didn’t “connect them” since the trend of money coming out of openRTB was in play well before curation was a thing plus it’s still hard to say how much money is….
REMINDER:

@danackerman Cheap shot, but ok. We covered both angles. If you don't buy into one side's vp, that's fine, but our judgment was spot-on. Redirect your frustration towards those who claimed the article was wrong but avoided correcting the record when given the chance.
