Nigeria has recently unveiled a National Digital Cloud Policy with $750Million expected to be invested over the next 24 months.
We should all be paying attention!
I have read it in detail and will be sharing in a 3-5 part series, what the policy actually does, what can go wrong from a cybersecurity stance, the opportunities for Nigerians and the talent Nigeria needs urgently.
This is part 1 - what the policy actually does.
Remember my post about the new program? It's time...
We ( @cybersafehq) are collaborating with @SANSInstitute for this one; and if you meet the eligibility criteria, you don't want to sleep on it!
Catch up with the details in the video
Beware of whom you take cybersecurity advices or classes from.
See, if you’re self learning, go to Cisco or other cybersecurity platforms, go through the curriculum and keep that as a guide.
It will save you some stress.
Some beginners are hosting paid classes for other beginners in the name of “the more I teach, the more I learn”
Be safe out there.
If you’re a woman in cybersecurity with 3 or more years of work experience and living in Africa…ready your fingers to apply!
We ( @cybersafehq ) will be calling for applications for an exciting new program on the 19th of August.
Thanks to our partner (who will be announced soon), for their in-kind donation of over $200k.
I was thinking about something yesterday while coming back from work. It might sound absurd, maybe it can be refined properly..
Given the qualities & quantities of what university students can get from classrooms now, I think they should be given at least 6 months of academic break when they finish 200l & before their final semester
I mean they should be out of school and not do anything school-related or Industrial Training
They should have those moments to figure out how they intend to take their future into their own hands outside of school, or how they intend to go astray real quick
WHY??
Covid19 break + 2022 ASUU strike contributed greatly to the success of my career and a couple of my guys
I am sure it also affected a few negatively
And I'm saying this because we have all had conversations regarding this particular time
How we felt useless and we had to take our future into our hands
Maybe if there were no COVID & the 2022 ASUU strike, I would still be looking for my first Cybersec job or even internship role right now
But those two periods (almost 2 years of no schoolwork, and I was a student) made me see beyond what the classroom could offer me. I had already grown into my course and taking the next step with a lot of intensity and speed wouldn't have been possible if I had academic goals to pursue at that point
Fun fact, I had better GPs after each of those breaks solely because whatever I did during those breaks taught me how to
- read better
- understand things better
- relate real-life solutions/tech to my current coursework
And by the time I resumed to school, whatever I was taught felt easier and the exams were very very cheap for me and my boys
I see my guys, doing well in the tech industry and I am sure that we are all the products of Covid 19 and the 2022 ASUU strike
And please don't preach IT period to me cause it is still tied to academics.
What I am speaking of is a period where a student is off school for like 6 months, knowing fully well that
- no IT supervisor is coming for them
- no exams at the end of the 6 months
- a period to discover, build yourself, and also understand and see how you are going to be responsible for your downfall if you don't take yo your life into your hands real quick
@25mufasa Based on my experience, I’d recommend Cisco NetAcad’s Junior Cybersecurity Analyst pathway and Google’s Cybersecurity Certificate. I’d take Networking Basics and Linux Essentials first though. A solid foundation makes everything else easier.
At risk of oversimplifying, I bring you another jargon bursting episode of Normal English Vs…
This episode is designed to give you sort of a one-word synonym or super simplistic meaning of jargons used by AI geeks.
So next time you’re in a meeting and any of these words are used, you won’t pretend to understand; you’ll actually understand.
Tell me in the comments, which one cracked you up the most?
Technology-facilitated gender-based violence is a big problem we are beginning to tackle at @cybersafehq, through our SafeHerClinic, led by Bisola.
We strongly believe creating safer digital spaces for women is a matter of urgency.
Through SafeHerClinic, an initiative of CyberSafe Foundation, we brought that commitment to life at the first edition of The Privacy Circle in Abuja.
The workshop gave women a practical space to understand technology-facilitated gender-based violence, strengthen their digital safety, and learn how to respond and seek support when online harm occurs.
I am proud of the SafeHerClinic team for making this important conversation practical, accessible, and meaningful.
I am also grateful to our partners, facilitators, and every woman who joined us and contributed to the experience.
If you or someone you know is experiencing technology-facilitated abuse, support is available at https://t.co/CcgEghjeE5.
Building a resilient digital ecosystem is not a one-off event; it is a continuous mission.
Last year, I was deeply honored to be nominated for Cybersecurity Personality of the Year at the (ICSC) International Cybersecurity Conference, co-hosted by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy and the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
Today, this journey of continuous impact takes another exciting step. I am happy to announce my second national nomination, this time for the "Young Digital Government Leader award" at The Nigeria eGovernment Summit Excellence Awards 2026
Just a few days ago, I was at INTERPOL Headquarters in France discussing the urgent need to shift the global narrative around Nigerian youth, moving away from stereotypes and heavily investing in prevention for our incredible local talent.
To return home and receive this continuous national recognition for the foundational work we are doing at Cbersecurity Education Initiative (@cysedHQ) is deeply humbling. It is a powerful reminder that our efforts to secure our cyberspace and empower the next generation of digital leaders are making a real difference.
But I need your help to bring this home!
Public voting is now officially open. If you believe in the work we are doing, I would be incredibly grateful for your vote.
