Yeah, that’s why I specified theoretic high end outcome. 1000000% agree this team isn’t likely to ever touch contention.
I guess better phrasing would be:
For any team not willing to pay the tax, assuming they build something resembling a contender, what’s your estimation of a realistic window?
@FearTheBrown What’s the theoretic high end outcome / contention window given ownerships aversion to the tax?
I feel like even a smart, lucky and strong rebuild only gets you 1-3yrs of contention max in this kind of environment.
Just curious your thoughts/theoretic projection.
At some point over the past 5 years Dort, Herb, Dyson, Ausar and Derrick White have been labeled as best perimeter and/or POA defender in the league. That title and noteriety fluctuates a ton.
The reality is, as you stated, Trey fits in any environment, has the scalability and efficiency that contenders want around their stars. He holds his own on defense and has a favorable contract in today’s league.
Trey’s value continues to ascend à la Mikal Bridges from a few years ago. Ausar, unless he improves dramatically in offensive areas, likely becomes a depreciating asset the second he signs a big contract like other big time perimeter defenders who were a liability on the scoring end.
It’s not impossible to build a legitimate contender with Ausar, but it is significantly harder… especially deeper in the postseason when the margins get smaller.
Zach Wilson and Tyler Shough were both in the 2018 HS Recruiting Class.
Tyler Shough was Pro Style QB 6
Zach Wilson was Pro Style QB 25
What a wild ride they each took(with major highs and lows for each) to land here at this point.
Saints are signing QB Zach Wilson, according to a source. Adds a veteran presence and some competition to the QB room behind Tyler Shough. Wilson, 26, was the No. 2 pick in 2021. He gives New Orleans a third quarterback with starting experience.
Silver Lining to Borrego being thrusted in the HC spot before this tough stretch is that no one expects to win these next 3 games. Low Pressure.
The ability to test line-ups and sets vs. real competetion hopefully pays off.

I’m like 40% convinced that Joe Dumars is a league plant to force the #Pelicans organization into relocation.
I’m running out of other viable theories.
It would be different if Rattler was playing award winning football. He’s improving. But he’s not playing “I’m the guy” ball.
The offense is still struggling overall. (Not all on him)
His YPA, AYPA, YPC, YPG, Passer Rating and QBR are all below league average.
You HAVE to see what Shough has to offer with the same runway afforded to Rattler otherwise it’s a complete waste of a pick and unless Rattler suddenly ramps it up to a crazy level… you go into yet another offseason not knowing if you have a QB capable of raising the ceiling for your team.
Would a team give up a 1st rd pick(or other high pick) for Rattler right now? (I believe the answer is a hard no)
Has Rattler shown enough to make you believe he’s the guy? (I would say no, not yet atleast)
These are the questions I would ask when evaluating:
-Keep playing Spence
-See what you have in Shough
-Am I Drafting a QB next year
The #Saints are signing former Montana State QB Tommy Mellott to the practice squad, per source.
Drafted in the sixth round by the #Raiders, Mellott was waived last week after practicing at receiver in camp. Now, the versatile playmaker heads to the home of Taysom Hill ...

Trey Murphy III might end up in the conversation for 2nd best player on the team in a couple of years.
1. Z
2a. BI
2b. TMIII
Say what you want about me. But that’s my take and I’m sticking to it.
If he continues to add to the arsenal in the offseason. SCARY!

Are the Mavs the first team in NBA history to have a Unquestioned Top-5 player who is entering their prime(25yo), drug them to a finals and wanted to remain on your team… to turn around and trade that guy for 25 cents on the dollar without trying to find better offers.
Genuinely asking for any similar circumstances. I’m still unable to process logic behind this.
