Teaching isn't a vocation. It's a difficult, rewarding, underpaid, under-appreciated job. The day we stop calling it a vocation and start paying teachers properly for the work, we'll see far more of them stay.

@WoodMeena @joel120193 @MathsladyScott Teaching is not a vocation. It's a job. Calling it a vocation makes it easier to pay us less and make us work more. I think a lot of people get into it before they realise how hard and poorly paid it is and are trapped as they can't afford to retrain for another career.

@JamesAFurey I wish more parents would do this. I'm tired of having to pander to the poorly behaved kids because management is afraid of complaints from their parents. Every child matters.....just not the ones who quietly suffer due to the behaviour of a few apparently.

@JamesAFurey I have a GCSE class with targets ranging from 2 to 9. It is impossible to differentiate perfectly for that. I do my best approximation and sometimes the 9s are bored or the 2s are lost. I only have so many hours in a day to plan these lessons.

Nobody warns you about this part of teaching. You pour years into a group of kids. You worry about them, celebrate them, tell them off, defend them. Then they leave, and you're expected to be fine. I'm not always fine. Caring was never the easy bit.
