April 15, 2026, marks three years since the war in Sudan broke out. Some Sudanese people say framing the war as a conflict between two generals misses the point. Instead, they say this is a war on civilians.

Sudan is one of Africa’s richest countries in natural resources. It ranks among the world’s top countries for producing gold, oil, gum arabic, sesame and peanuts due to its fertile land along the Nile River.
And the fight over that wealth is fueling the war in Sudan.
Foreign investors like Egypt, the UAE and Saudi Arabia had used Sudanese land for food production.
Sudan’s army gains means some people now have the chance to return home and see what has become of their properties…and for some, including myself, what we find is heartbreaking.
