The Eritrea Effect: The Political Economy of Ethiopian Suffering.
Itโs not coincidence that almost all violent political orgs in Ethiopia are linked to Eritrea, a trend 60 years in the making. Ethiopia should recognize Eritrea for what it is, a vector of terrorism. Read more: https://t.co/oTzY8hBNOv

The greatest irony in the Horn of Africa is that Eritrea won its independence but never completed its liberation.
The struggle against foreign rule ended in 1991.the struggle for political freedom never began.
The tragedy is that many spend more time listing Ethiopiaโs weaknesses than explaining why nearly every regional and global power still factors Ethiopia into its strategic calculations. nobody builds foreign policy around countries that do not matter. ethiopia matters precisely because it is too large to ignore.

If U.S. Prez Trump really understood all the facts surrounding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam he would take a different line. Best thing US could do is stay out of it and let Egypt and Ethiopia sort it out - which they will eventually. https://t.co/S0hP0SGLQe
My warm congratulations to Prime Minister @AbiyAhmedAli and the Prosperity Party on their victory in Ethiopiaโs general election.
When I visited Addis Ababa last year, the first such visit by a Malaysian PM, I was struck by the warmth of the welcome and the substance of our conversations. Prime Minister Abiy and I found that we read the world in much the same way, and that countries of the Global South stand to gain a great deal by working together as equals.
Ethiopia matters greatly to how Malaysia engages with Africa. There is much that we set in motion last year, and I look forward to carrying it forward together.

It is an honour to stand today at the ๐๐ง๐๐๐ข๐ฃ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ฉ๐๐ฅ๐ฆ national summit held under the theme "From Reform to Lasting Change," I reflected on the journey that has brought us to this moment, a nation that has continuously risen, built the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam with its own hands. These are not chances. They are the results of deliberate choices, anchored in the spirit of Medemer, the conviction that lasting change is built through coming together.
Our reforms are not an end in themselves; they are the foundation we lay for the generations that will come after us. For nation building is a collective work that does not conclude with any single generation, and with that conviction, I call on every Ethiopian to carry this spirit forward, to receive what we have built, and to rise higher still!
Pleased to share that my latest commentary, "Egypt as a Patron and Eritrea as a Client State: Geopolitical Implications for Red Sea Security," has been published in The Reporter.
