Your regular reminder that the U.K. govt issued 10s of billions of pounds of Covid contracts to their mates, donors and chums, then added those contracts to the NHS annual budget, and now claim “record NHS funding”. They think we are all thick as mince!
Medical professionals refusing to mask is such an ethical red flag. But it also makes me question professional competency. Do you know basic science? Are you capable of reading latest studies and changing your practices? Should you be in charge of policy? Bc now I'm doubtful.
I try not to be a doomer on main, but is there literally any reason to think things will get better? We're all so fucked, utterly and inescapably. The best I can hope for is that I'll live to see the collapse of our biosphere, not die on the way to that point? Please. Something.
every time i see another "why aren't americans feeling positive about the economy?" i think of how pretty much not a single local government, or the national one for that matter, thinks about renters for more than two seconds
Will Smith obviously a charisma powerhouse in MIB, perfect cool guy everyman, sells the tickets, but Jones is so excellent at not only selling the world, but truly feeling like a tired old man remembering what he loves about this life, wants to pass it on. Incredible performance
Let's get one thing straight. The NHS didn't break itself. The Tories broke the NHS. They broke it through 13 years of neglect and under investment. They broke it because they don't use it, love, want it. And because - like everything else they broke - they simply didn't care.
I have this dreadful – reasonable – fear that there will always be some fiscal wobble, some 'sensible' emollient prudence, which excuses this insane inaction, round after round after round, whatever the change in cast at the top. Short-term nihilism until the ultimate zero hour.
...when I see an actual flesh-and-blood climate activist in conflict with their natural enemy, the Coca-Cola promotional bus, I do not have to ask myself which side I am on
I think part of the myth that long covid is rare comes from people not talking that much about how they’ve been affected. So many of my friends are just less energetic, less sharp, less capable, several months after infection, or have some new problem that isn’t obvious to others
not to get too Omelas about this but every anti-LGBT thing is like, we have hunted down and immiserated these dangerous extremists who infiltrate threaten our entire way of life, and it’s the one queer person in the entire country getting dropped into a big hole full of spikes
This is one of the most interesting free school lunch papers - when districts implement universal free school lunch, it puts competitive pressure on grocery stores, resulting in lower food prices for *everyone* even if they don't directly benefit from school lunches
the reddit thing is such a great example of how rotted CEO brains are, like imagine scoring an entire workforce willing to run your business for free and somehow managing to fuck that up because you're so disconnected from labor you think monetizing volunteer work is a good idea
“We can’t wear masks in hospitals forever.”
Actually, we literally could. In fact, we should. It’s a good idea. It reduces infection. There you go. Solved it.
