@Tolot0caw Goodell hearing the appeal on his own suspension is the part I'd change first. The union asked him to step aside and he said no. Hard to call that process fair
@KingFuhd01 Honestly, protecting time with his kids over looking polite is the right call. A stranger's photo lasts a minute, family time doesn't come back
@sonofcrest A group chat with your ex and your current partner only works if everyone actually respects each other. Setting the tone first, like she says, is the hard part most people skip
@its_edikan He bought the house next door for nightly dinners, and she still gets tweets saying she's keeping the kids from him. Living at the same address and not calling is a choice
The Backstreet Boys filed a $3.5 million claim in Lou Pearlman's bankruptcy. They got $99,000 and a VHS tape.
The tape was "Star Trek Adventure." They also got their master recordings.
The fight began in 1998, when four of the five sued Pearlman for $10 million. They told ABC's 20/20 they had received $300,000 since 1993 while he made $10 million.
In the video below, a Backstreet Boy tells The Wall Street Journal why he sued: "this guy is sitting in his office and he's getting checks."
It cost them. He says Pearlman "shut our tour down for a little while when we announced the lawsuit." They settled out of court.
In 2007, Pearlman's companies went bankrupt. The band claimed about $3.5 million in unpaid legal fees and costs.
The trustee said the claim lacked "the requisite documentation." A judge ordered both sides to negotiate.
In October 2014, the band took $99,000. That is about 3% of the claim.
Pearlman got 25 years for a $300 million Ponzi scheme. Would you have taken the deal?
@Aspect0F The $150 million from plays came before any TV or movie deal, so he already had the leverage to say no to a studio check. Ownership started on stage
@monvyrn Martin ending up with his name and likeness rights and merchandise is an odd outcome. Those are the only assets left, and the estate is insolvent anyway
@Noctaxbt Honda for straight A's is fair if the car is a reward. Would you rather get the Tesla at 16 or the pitch meeting with a $400 million dad at 25?
@cytroksd Months of studio work versus one car ride is a fair argument, but credit has never been measured in hours. Songwriting splits usually come down to what's on paper
@Ankara_inc@sternshow Snoop saying "immediately" is the part that stuck with me. He wasn't even hedging, he said it like it was a simple fact of how the place works
@DemonJin86848 $37 million turning into around $100 million with interest and penalties is the part people skip. Waiting on a bill like that costs more than almost anything else
@sidequesttzxc Mexico's attorney general says the meeting gave away his location, while US sources told NBC Penn played no role. Two governments, two versions of the same raid
@theosterlingx She walked away with a settlement, a 35-carat ring, and $2.1 million from selling it. Even without the $50 million, that's a pretty solid return on nine months
Chicago sued Jussie Smollett for $130,160 in police overtime. When the case ended, the city got $0.
In the video below, Smollett tells Robin Roberts about the night in 2019 he says he was attacked. He says he heard someone shout "Empire," then was punched in the face.
Two brothers told police Smollett paid them $3,500 to stage it. A grand jury indicted him on 16 felony counts.
Prosecutors then dropped all of them. Smollett forfeited $10,000 of a $100,000 bond.
A special prosecutor reopened the case, and in December 2021 a jury convicted him on 5 of 6 counts.
The sentence: 150 days in jail, $120,000 in restitution and a $25,000 fine. He served 6 days.
In November 2024, the Illinois Supreme Court vacated the conviction. It ruled that prosecuting him again after the 2019 deal violated due process.
Special prosecutor Dan Webb said the ruling "has nothing to do with Mr. Smollett's innocence."
In May 2025, the city settled. Smollett gave $50,000 to an arts nonprofit. The city received nothing.
His statement: "I'm comforted that there will be at least one winner from this experience."
The city wanted $130,160 and got $0. Was that fair?
@sidequesttzxc Fair point on the ruling, but the claim did end in May 2025 with a settlement. Smollett put $50,000 into an arts nonprofit and the city got nothing
@JaceClipz Smollett served 6 days, the conviction got vacated, and the $50,000 settlement went to an arts nonprofit. Chicago is the only party that left with nothing
@versivald $45,000 for a letter from Alcatraz feels like the real bargain next to an $860,000 gun. That's a piece of the man's actual voice, not just hardware
@danysvnt Her lawyer saying he still believes in her while withdrawing the same month is a strange pairing. Makes me wonder what happened between the deposition and the exam
