Gajasamharamoorthi (the Slayer of the Elephant Demon) is one of the fiercest and most dynamic forms of Shiva, depicting him vanquishing the elephant demon, Gajasura. This form symbolizes the triumph of divine power over arrogance and evil.
The image of Gajasamharamoorthi became especially popular in Pallava and Chola art, where Shiva is portrayed in a vigorous dance, draped in the flayed hide of the slain elephant demon.
The sculpture shown here is from the Thanjavur Art Gallery.
The most important shrine dedicated to Gajasamharamoorthi is located at Vazhuvur in Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu.
The temple houses a magnificent eight-armed bronze image of Shiva in this form and is one of the revered Ashta Veeratta Sthalams (the Eight Heroic Abodes), the eight sacred temples that commemorate Shiva's heroic deeds.

This whole process becomes your very skin and it does not merely affect you; it actually defines you. So, you see yourself as a shadowy figure unworthy of developing interest, unworthy of wondering about the world - profoundly unworthy in every sense and deeply absent in your very presence.”
Prof Nivedita Menon in one of her lectures posed a question before us- what if the ‘dancing girl’ from harappan civilisation was not a dancer but a warrior? We were reading Stuart Hall and constructivism. I remember the entire class was baffled. No one had heard

A stand-up comedy audience interaction has snowballed into one of India's most talked-about controversies. Comedian Pranit More is facing legal scrutiny after viral clips from his Gurugram show triggered outrage online and prompted action from authorities.
The controversy began when audience member Himanshu Jangra shared details of a date on which he spent ₹370 on a plate of biryani and made remarks suggesting he was owed something in return. The comments were widely criticised for allegedly promoting sexual coercion and non-consensual behaviour.

“Even if humankind is technologized and armed to the extreme, anticipating a global situation in which the very distinction between ‘war and peace’ belongs to those things abandoned— even then the human being lives poetically on this earth…”
